I've been learning how to best use the new Chevron Border punch from Stampin' Up! There is a bit of learning curve for getting evenly spaced chevrons. Please see some of the tips I've learned along the way below.
It took me several tries to figure out how to use the punch so I would have evenly spaced chevrons on pieces of card stock measuring 5 1/2" x 4 1/4", 5 1/4" x 4", 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and 4" x 5 1/4".
Here is the pile of punched chevrons to prove it too!
This may come easy to some, but I always struggle with how to get evenly spaced designs using the border punches. After some trial and error, I created a quick tutorial that will hopefully help someone else along the way.
The paper used in the tutorial were scraps of light-weight computer paper. The punch seems to work fine with the computer paper.
TIP: make sure the inside edge of the paper is securely lined up along the "back fence" of the punch.
The punch has a small mark on the front bottom. Use this mark as your starting point. I have marked the line on the punch using a Sharpie Pen.
To punch evenly spaced chevrons on a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of card stock, place the edge of the card stock along that mark and punch.
Slide the paper forward so you have 2 chevrons lined up on the upper guide and punch.
Slide the paper forward so you have 3 chevrons lined up on the upper guide and punch.
Slide the paper forward so you have 4 chevrons lined up along the upper guide and punch.
You now have a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of card stock with 8 evenly aligned chevrons down the left side of the paper.
To punch a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of card stock, place the edge of the card stock along the guide mark on the punch.
Slide the card stock forward so you have 2 chevrons lined up on the upper guide and punch.
Slide the card stock forward so you have 3 chevrons lined up on the upper guide and punch.
You now have a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of card stock with 7 evenly aligned chevrons down the left side of the paper.
To punch a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of paper along the bottom edge of the paper, place the edge of the card stock along the guide mark on the punch.
Slide the paper forward so you have 1 chevron lined up on the upper guide and punch.
Slide the paper forward so you have 2 chevrons lined up on the upper guide and punch.
You now have a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of card stock with 6 evenly aligned chevrons along the bottom edge of the paper
To punch the bottom edge of a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of paper, place the edge of the card stock along the guide mark on the punch.
Slide the paper forward so you have 1 chevron lined up on the upper guide and punch.
You now have a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of card stock with 5 evenly aligned chevrons along the bottom edge of the paper.
Here is a finished project using the Chevron Border Punch to create an upper layer over a piece of Designer Series Paper. More projects will be coming as I will be using this punch more in the future!
