Mom Paper Pierced Cross Stitch

One of our Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew challenges this month was to showcase paper piercing.  I decided to combine paper piercing with cross stitch embroidery. The two go hand in hand!

Here's my contribution:

Sweet Threads 022

For this card, I used the new Sweet Threads embroidery kit in the current Spring Mini Catalog from Stampin' Up!  I instantly knew I had to have this kit when I first saw it in the catalog.  I used to embroider as a kid, and this kit brought back all kinds of good memories.  Once the kit arrived, I got busy making fun cross-stitch cards.  (see my posting on December 29 for more details)

I knew I wanted to use the cupcake cross-stitch die cut for this color challenge.  The colors of the embroidery floss included in the Sweet Threads kit are Primrose Petals and Lucky Limeade.  Lucky Limeade was not part of the challenge, so I had to come up with another plan to get Pool Party into the mix.  I have some white, silky string in my embroidery supplies (yes, from when I was a kid.  I saved it all!), so I decided that I would dye it using Pool Party reinker!  I placed the string in a baggie with several drops of the reinker and a little bit of water and let it set for an hour or so.  Once it dried, it was not quite dark enough, so I simply ran my Pool Party marker over it.  Voila!  Pool Party embroidery floss!

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entry to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Supplies Used ( all supplies are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted)

Stamp Set: Essentials

Ink: Real Red, Pool Party reinker and marker

Paper: Pool Party, Real Red patterned paper (from one of the older Hostess Paper Patterns Pack-I liked this paper because even though it is Real Red, the lighter part of the design looks like Primrose Petals)

Accessories: Sweet Threads Simply Sent kit (cupcake die cut pattern, Primrose Petals embroidery floss, embroidery needle, Dimensionals), white string (non Stampin' Up!)

I was really excited to see this kit because as a kid, I used to love to embroider.  This was in the 70's when embroidery on jeans and jean jackets were all the rage.  I still have one of the jean jackets I embroidered way back when. I used to give hand-embroidered chambray shirts as Christmas gifts to my Mom and grandparents and still have the embroidered sun that was on the back of the shirt I gave my grandfather one year. It was still in his closet when he passed away. The chambray was frayed and well worn.  I cut the back apart, saving the embroided sun.

But, it has been ages and ages since I had done any embroidery even though I still have all my patterns, hoops, needles and embroidery floss.  That is up until recently.  I've been busy making quick cards using this amazing kit.  It's been nice sitting in my comfy chair in the afternoons, embroidering and having the feel of the embroidery floss in my fingers again!
