Sale a bration

One of my favorite Sale-A-Bration choices this year is the Berry Blessings Bundle which features the Berry Blessings stamp set and Berry Delightful Designer Series Paper.

The paper in particular, is so bright and cheery, reminding me of Spring!

I combined it, along with Sweet Strawberry stamp set which can be found in the Jan-June Mini Catalog to create this Drapery Fold card.

Sweet Strawberry Final

February Sketch Challege-Acrylic Block Watercolor Background

Feb 21 sketch challenge

Sometimes it helps to have a jumping off point with your crafting, and a sketch challenge is a perfect way to start!

Use the sketch as a blueprint for your own creations.

I will be sharing sketch challenges every so often.

I hope they provide inspiration, and you'll share your creations with me!

I created this card using the February Sketch.

Sketch corner bouquet

It features the Acrylic Block Watercolor Background Technique, paired with Corner Bouquet, a Sale-A-Bration choice available through Feb 28.

Colors used for the background are Pacific Point, Highland Heather, and Blushing Bride.

I first cut the squares out of watercolor paper using my Cut & Emboss Machine and Layering Squares Dies.

I placed them on a sheet of grid paper to get the correct alignment.

I tapped the ink pads onto my clear block, spritzed the block with water, then placed it on the squares.

I let it set for a few seconds, allowing the ink to pool and run, then lifted it up.  I blotted any excess ink using a paper towel to be used for another project.

See my Recycle and Reuse Page for paper towel backgrounds!

To stamp the images from Corner Bouquet, I set up the squares in my Stamparatus, again using a piece of grid paper for the proper alignment.

I then stamped the images a few times using Night of Navy ink.  The Stamparatus is invaluable for getting a good inked image,  especially when stamping on the texture of watercolor paper.

The greeting is from Sweet Strawberry.

Sketch Challenge

For this card, I cut 4 squares out of Berry Delight Designer Series Paper (Sale-A-Bration) using my Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and Layering Squares Framelit Dies.

I embossed my Whisper White/Basic White card front using the Subtle Embossing Folder, then stamped the greeting from Sweet Strawberry in Real Red using the Stamparatus.

The 4 squares were attached, and the card front was then attached to the Whisper White/Basic White card base.

Red Rhinestone Jewels were added for a little bling.

The Drapery Fold is fun and different, providing texture and interest to your card creations.

My February Fresh Ideas Newsletter will feature 3 types of Drapery Folds.

The first is one with large folds or pleats graduating down at an angle.
The pleats can run vertically from top to bottom or bottom to top, or horizontal from left to right or right to left.
Use double-sided designer paper for contrasting patterns.
The possibilities are endless!

The 2nd Drapery Fold has smaller folds or pleats that pop up and run straight across the card front.

The 3rd Drapery Fold is this free-form folding technique.
No pre-scoring per a pattern.  Just fold the paper back on itself, letting the paper determine the fold.

Woodland Wonder Valentine's Day Card

Ryans Valentines Day Card closedWoodland Wonder Valentine's Day Card closed

Ryans Valentines Day Card openWoodland Wonder Valentine's Day Card opened

One of the nice things about having grandchildren is looking through the Stampin' Up! catalogs and contemplating stamp sets that I would have barely noticed before.

That was certainly the case with the Woodland Wonder stamp set found in the Jan-June Mini Catalog.

I would have said to myself, "that is really cute, but what would I use it for?"

Now that we have grandchildren, I look at stamp sets like this with fresh eyes.

I immediately knew I had to have this set!

Perfect for our animal-loving grandchildren!

I used it to create a Valentine's Day card for our 1 1/2- year-old grandson, Ryan.

It took a little time, but all in all, it came together pretty easily.

Here's how:

  1. Start with a 4"  x 11" piece of Whisper/Basic White card stock, scored at 5 1/2" and 8 1/4".  It'll be easier to stamp if you don't fold it along the scorelines yet.
  2. You will build your tree using the different images of the stamp set.  You can certainly stamp free hand (the stamp set is photopolymer, so it is relatively easy to line up the images), but using a Stamparatus is a big help, especially if you need to ink and stamp multiple times to get dark color.
  3. I started with the base of the tree image.  Using the Stamparatus, I stamped it on the bottom of my card front using Early Espresso ink.
  4.  I kept the stamp on the Stamparatus plate but moved the plate up one notch so the bottom of the stamp would line up with what was already stamped.  The trick here is to ink just the tree trunk and not the grass.  If it helps, place a piece of scotch tape over the grass, ink up the stamp, REMOVE the tape, and then stamp.  Repeat if needed to get a dark stamped image.
  5. Remove stamp and replace it with all the cute animal images, lining it up with what has already been stamped.  Stamp using Early Espresso ink.
  6. Remove stamp and replace it with the image of the top of the tree, lining it up with what has already been stamped.  Stamp using Early Espresso ink.
  7. Color image using Stampin' Blends, Stampin' Write Markers or watercolor pencils.  I used a variety of each.  Remember, when using Stampin' Blends, the color will bleed into the back of the card stock.  I did not want that to show through onto the bottom panel's back side, so I used Stampin' Write Markers to color the bottom part of the tree trunk and grass.  It was not a concern for the rest of the images, as I knew they would be backed by the Real Red card base.
  8.  Stamp the rabbit, banner, greeting, butterfly, music notes, and clouds. I used the Stamparatus for the rabbit, banner and greeting.  The other images were stamped free hand. Stamp the string for the balloon using the Stamparatus.  I used Stampin' Write Markers to ink just the string and bow as I did not want the balloon to be part of the design.
  9. I stamped the Valentine's Day greeting using the retired stamp Teeny Tiny Wishes.  This was stamped free hand as the stamp is on a woodblock.
  10. Punch hearts using a small punch out of Real Red and Flirty Flamingo card stock.  Attach to the top of the string images using Mini Dimensionals to pop them up.
  11. Fold card along the score lines, bringing up the bottom panel to meet the card's top part.
  12. Attach a piece of ribbon to the back of the card front, bringing the ends to the front.  Attach the card front to Real Red card base.  Tie a bow on the ribbon to keep the card closed.

Pocketful of Hearts Valentine's Day Card

Madysens Valentines Day Card

I made this sweet Pocketful of Hearts Valentine's Day card for our 4-year-old granddaughter, Madysen.

I cut the pocket out of Berry Delightful Designer Series Paper (part of the Berry Delightful Bundle, a Sale-A-Bration choice available through the end of February) using the Stampin' Cut and Emboss Machine and the retired Pocket die.

The leaves and stems were cut out of Old Olive and Soft Sea Foam card stock using the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and Wrapped Flowers Dies.

I used a small heart punch to create the heart "flowers."

They were punched out of Real Red and Flirty Flamingo card stock, and the Rococco Rose design found in Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper (another Sale-A-Bration choice).

I added a small strip of Real Red card stock to finish off the top of the pocket, plus added some enamel shapes dies from my stash.

The greeting is from the retired Teeny Tiny Wishes.

This card just makes me smile, and I hope Miss Madysen will like it!
