Crafting with Aluminum Cans-4 Noses Mountain Wave

4 Noses Mountain Wave

I love to cut shapes out of aluminum cans and add them to my card creations.

It's easy to do, and the possibilities are endless!

You can view my aluminum can creations HERE

(Instructions and a link to a video tutorial on how to cut the cans can be found on this page)

I'm always on the look out for interesting designs and colors on aluminum cans.

Over the years, I have used hundreds of different beer and soda cans, each one turning out a little different.

Fortunately, my husband is a craft beer drinker and is always bringing home new beers to try.  Often, these beers have interesting labels on the cans.

My husband drinks the beer, then I confiscate the cans to create!

This was the case when he brought home Mountain Wave brewed by 4 Noses Brewing Company, Broomfield, CO.

I love the stylized mountains outlined in gold on this label.

I also like how again, the label is not printed directly on the can, but instead, is a type of plastic that is heat shrinked onto the can.

More and more breweries seem to be using this type of label.

It makes it easy to use the label.

You don't need to cut down the can to get to the label.  Instead, you can just peel it off the can.

The one thing I struggled with using this label is the "4 Noses" wording that is just left of the moon.

I didn't want to cut the label down any more than necessary to get rid of it, so I put the greeting from Butterfly Gala over the top of it.

The card base is Bermuda Bay which goes perfectly with the colors in the label.

Here's what the can looks like before cutting down the label.

Crafting with Aluminum Cans Odd 13 Brewing

Odd 13 Brewing

I've shared many of the cards I have created over the years using beer or soda cans.

I cut the cans down and use the fun and colorful labels to create cards.

(you can see them HERE)

My husband drinks a variety of craft beers, and I'm always confiscating the cans afterwards.

Recently, he had cans of the Hop Hackin' Henry India Pale Ale from Odd13 Brewing, Lafayette, CO.

Oh my, I was immediately taken with the bold colors and interesting character on the label.

What was also great is that the label was actually printed on plastic that was glued to the can instead of being printed on the actual can.

So, I didn't need to cut the can down.  I just needed to carefully peel off the label.

I then attached it to a piece of card stock so I could cut the part I wanted to use in an oval shape using my die cut machine and oval die.

So easy!

I matted it with a Basic Black oval and attached it to a Misty Moonlight card front which matched perfectly with the colors on the label.

The greeting is from Blossoms in Bloom stamped in Memento Black on a piece of Calypso Coral card stock and popped up using Dimensionals.

Fun, and the possibilities are endless!

Snow Front Happy Birthday

Carol Birthday

This is the birthday card I made for our neighbor Carol.

I used the stamp set Snow Front which is perfect for our setting in the mountains of southern Colorado.

It was easy to create.

  1. Create a mask for the moon by punching a circle out of a post-it-note using 1" circle punch.
  2.  Place the punched circle on a Whisper/Basic White card front.  Ink mountain by tapping Misty Moonlight and Gorgeous Grape on the stamp.  Stamp over the circle mask.
  3. Ink trees by tapping Old Olive and Mossy Meadow inks on the stamp.  Stamp over the circle mask.
  4. Stamp landscape using Old Olive ink below the mountains and the trees.
  5. Lightly sponge Misty Moonlight ink around the mask, mountain and trees.  Lightly sponge Pool Party below the stamped images.
  6. Remove the mask.  Place the stencil over the circle left on the card front.  Using a sponge dauber, dab Frosty White Shimmer Paint inside the stencil.  Remove the stencil.
  7.  Stamp greeting from Blossoms in Bloom on Whisper/Basic White card base using Gorgeous Grape ink.  I used the Stamparatus.
  8. Attach card front to Misty Moonlight mat.  Attach to card base to complete.

January Fresh Ideas Faux Quilting Technique-Come Fly With Me Quilting Pattern

Dandy Garden Come Fly with Me
Dandy Garden Faux Quilt Card-Come Fly With Me quilt pattern was my inspiration!

I have said many times that I love working with fabric but don't enjoy sewing.

I have a sewing machine, but it rarely gets used.

I don't quilt, but I appreciate the beauty and time it takes to create one.

I discovered the Faux Quilting Technique using paper instead of fabric, and over the years, have created many cards using this technique.

I recently saw this Come Fly With Me quilt pattern on Pinterest.
