Country Road Father's Day

Father's day

I created this weathered barn card for my Dad for Father's Day using the retired Country Road stamp set.

This look could also be achieved using the Geared Up Garage stamp set, creating an old garage using the car, tool box, and gas can images.

My Dad is not really a garage guy.  He's more of a weathered barn in the country guy!

The sides of the barn were aged by swiping Soft Suede and Bermuda Bay inks on the inside of the Hardwood Planks Embossing Folder, then adding a piece of Crumb Cake card stock and running it through the Big Shot to emboss.

To age it a little more, I lightly spritzed it with water and crumbled it into a ball.  I opened it up,  swiped White Craft ink on the creases, and set it aside to dry.

For the roof, I made a quick template, out of computer paper.  I cut out the template, placed it on a piece of Copper Foil paper and traced around the template with a pencil. I then cut it out using a pair of scissors.  I embossed it using my Big Shot and Corrugated Embossing Folder.  Once embossed, I scored 1 1/2" from the top and folded it along the score line.  The roof was attached to the card front using Dimensionals.  To age the roof, I ran a sanding block over it.

The weeds were stamped on Pear Pizzazz card stock using Mossy Meadow and Call me Clover inks.  They were fussy cut using a pair of scissors.

The wagon wheel was stamped on Crumb Cake card stock using Early Espresso ink.  It too was fussy cut using a pair of scissors.

Once the pieces were attached to a Soft Suede mat and a Very Vanilla card base, I stamped the greeting from Itty Bitty Greetings on a piece of Soft Suede card stock that had been embossed using the Hardwood Planks embossing folder.  I attached it to a small piece of Copper Foil paper that had also been embossed using the Corrugated Embossing Folder, and was roughed up using the sanding block.

I think my Dad will like the card!

Crafting with Aluminum Cans-Founders All Day IPA

Founders Day IPA

One of my favorite crafting techniques is to cut shapes out of aluminum cans and add them to my card creations.

You can view my aluminum can creations HERE

(Instructions and a link to a video tutorial on how to cut the cans can be found on this page)

I'm always on the look out for interesting designs and colors on aluminum cans.

Fortunately, my husband is a craft beer drinker and is always bringing home new beers to try.  Often, these beers have interesting labels on the cans.

My husband drinks the beer, then I confiscate the cans to create!

Recently, he tried Founders All Day IPA from Founders Brewery in Michigan with this cool image on the cans.

This is a perfect image for creating those masculine-themed cards!

I matted the image cut from the can using Mossy Meadow card stock.

I secured the edges by punching holes using my Crop-a-dile, then inserted retired glimmer brads in the 4 corners.

The greeting is from Flora and Fauna stamped on a piece of Granny Apple Green using Black Memento ink.

The wood design on the card front is from the new pack of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper.

Super simple to create, and possibilities are endless!
