Pigment Sprinkles Honey Bee

Pigment sprinkles

The Honey Bee Bundle found in the 2020 Mini Catalog just makes me smile!

This was a quick and easy card to make using Pigment Sprinkles for the background.

I spritzed a piece of watercolor paper with water, then sprinkled on Mango Melody with a small amount of Daffodil Delight Pigment Sprinkles.  I let the color run and pool, then dabbed the excess off with a paper towel.

I cut two of the honeycomb pieces out of Whisper White card stock using the Big Shot and Detailed Bee Die.

Once the background was dry, I attached the honeycomb pieces using a small amount of Tombow Multi-purpose Glue.

The bee was stamped on a piece of scrap watercolor paper using Memento Black ink and the Stamparatus.

Then, I used the coordinating die to cut it out.

I used my Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Marker to color the bee's body, and a sponge to add Crushed Curry ink around the edges.

The greeting was stamped using Black Memento ink and the Stamparatus.

The card front was matted to Basic Black, then attached to a Crushed Curry card base.

The bee was added using a Dimensional to pop it up.

Friendly Silhouettes Stippled Watercolor Backgrounds

Stipple watercolorStippled Watercolor Paper  Background

Stipple paper towel watercolor
Paper Towel Watercolor Background

I loved Sherrill Graff's idea of creating hand-made paper by wetting Whisper White card stock, then stippling on ink, creating pretty watercolor patterns.
I created these thank you cards using that technique, but instead of Whisper White, I used watercolor paper.
I spritzed on water until the paper was really wet. With a wet stipple brush, I added Highland Heather and Bermuda Bay inks. Then, I added coarse kosher salt. I let the ink and salt set, then blotted it with a paper towel, and set it aside to dry.
The salt leaves interesting splotches.

The 2nd set of cards were made with the paper towel. I always try to use the paper towels I have used to blot Sprinkles or watercolor.
What a great way to recycle and reuse!
I separated the plys, attached it to a card stock base with SNAIL so I could easily cut it down for cards.

Supplies Used:
Stamp Set: Itty Bitty Greetings
Ink: Highland Heather, Bermuda Bay, Blueberry Bushel
Paper: Whisper White, Blushing Bride, Shimmery White, watercolor
Accessories: spritzer bottle with water, stipple brush, kosher salt, paper towel, Big Shot, Friendly Silhouettes Die, Mini Dimensionals, Stamparatus

Northern Lights Background

Northern LightsRecently, I shared a card inspired by the optical phenomenon, Light Pillars.

This happens when light is refracted by ice crystals.

I used this photo taken of light pillars as the inspiration to make my own.

Light pillars

The card above was my first go at it.

While I really like how it turned out, I think it is more of a Northern Lights Background than a Light Pillars Background.

So, I kept at it, coming up and sharing a Light Pillar card HERE.

For the Northern Lights card, I sponged Poppy Parade, Highland Heather, Crushed Curry, Pacific Point, Granny Apple Green, and Pretty Peacock inks onto my Shimmery White card front.  I sponged up from the bottom where the landscape is so my colors would be more even as I got to the top.

The sky was sponged on using Night of Navy, Basic Black, and Whisper White Craft inks.

Supplies Used:

Ink: Poppy Parade, Highland Heather, Crushed Curry, Pacific Point, Granny Apple Green, and Pretty Peacock, Night of Navy, Basic Black, Whisper White Craft

Paper: Whisper White, Night of Navy, Shimmery White, Basic Black

Accessories: sponges, Big Shot, Snow Globe Scenes Die, Mini Dimensionals

Light Pillars Technique

Light pillars

Recently, I learned about Light Pillars, an optical phenomenon that occurs when light is refracted by ice crystals.

I used this photo of light pillars taken in Canada to create my own.

I used post-it-notes to mask the light pillars and sponge daubers to add Poppy Parade, Pretty Peacock, Crushed Curry, and metallic copper inks.

The sky was sponged using Balmy Blue, Pacific Point, Night of Navy, Basic Black, metallic copper, and Whisper White Craft (like a Northern Lights background.)

The card front is Shimmery White matted to Gold Foil.  The trees are from Snow Globe Scenes Dies

Supplies Used:

Paper: Whisper White, Gold Foil, Shimmery White, Basic Black

Ink: Poppy Parade, Pretty Peacock, Crushed Curry, metallic copper, Balmy Blue, Pacific Point, Night of Navy, Whisper White Craft

Accessories: post-it-notes, sponge daubers, sponge, Big Shot, Snow Globe Scenes Dies
