A World of Thanks-Nacho Average Challenge #174

As 2015 comes to a end, so does our Nacho Average Challenges

This will be the last Nacho Challenge!

We've been at this for a few years, and have really enjoyed seeing everyone's beautiful cards.  It's time to hang up our challenge hats.  BUT, we will be back -- just in a different format.  So, check back here on January 15th for an exciting new Nacho event!

We so appreciate all of our loyal followers and contributors.

The Design Team looks forward to our next venture and we hope you'll continue to check out the site for ideas and inspiration.

Here's my contribution:

A World of Thanks 003

For this card, I inked up A World of Thanks in the challenge colors.  Then, I sprinkled on clear embossing powder and heat embossed to make the ink pop.  The snowflake was also embossed using silver embossing powder, and a Night of Navy Candy Dot was added to the center to complete the card.

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entries to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Wonderland Watercolor Blotter-Nacho Average Challenge #173

We have a great sketch challenge this week over at the Nacho Average site.  We hope you'll play along!

NAC173

Here's my contribution:

Wonderland 046

Recently, I received a very special gift in the mail from Dan Stouffer.  Dan Stouffer is an accomplished watercolor artist that lives in New Mexico.  He and his wife Jean are long time family friends.  Both my Mom and I have an extensive collection of Dan Stouffer paintings in our houses.

The special gift that came in the mail was several "blotter" pieces that Dan uses to test colors as he paints.

Basically, they are scraps.

Oh, but what beautiful scraps!

Wonderland 043

In fact, on the back of one of the blotters was a piece of a painting. Obviously the start of a painting that didn't make the grade and was basically cut up to use as blotter scraps.

But, what a pretty piece! I have this one sitting on my book shelf.

A mini painting that is perfect for my mountain setting!

Wonderland 045

Anyway, I decided to use one of the blotter pieces with shades of blue and a touch of Wisteria Wonder, coupled with Wonderland, for this week's challenge.

Thanks Dan for sharing!  I will enjoy using the blotters in my crafting!

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entries to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Wonderland All is Calm, All is Bright-Bleach Background

Wonderland 023

For this card, I revisited the bleach background for a pretty winter scene.  The bleach technique is one of my favorites, and it is easy to do:

I put a sheet of paper towel in a powder pal and then carefully poured a small amount of bleach on the towel.   I inked up my stamps from Wonderland (the trees) and To You and Yours Too (the stars) in the bleach and stamped on Night of Navy card stock.  As  it dries, it will bleach out the card stock, creating a neat effect.  The cool thing about this technique is that each color of card stock that is stamped with the bleach will turn a different color.  It's one of those techniques that you have to try a bunch of different card stock to see what you get and what you like best.  The biggest tip is to be extra careful with the bleach.  Wear old clothes and protect your work surface. You are working with bleach, and we all know how disaster can strike if you're not careful.  Also, make sure you clean your stamps immediately after use.

Other supplies: paper towel, bleach, Powder Pal

Owl Builder Punch Reindeer-Cheers!

Owl punch reindeer 001

Owl punch reindeer 003

I made this cute guy for our September Stamp Club swap.  The theme was "silly or funny." Even though it was only September, I was in Christmas card making mode, so I decided to make a happy looking reindeer using my Owl Builder punch.  The antlers were made with a retired snow flake punch, but the branch from the Bird Builder punch could work just as well.  The nose and the circles behind the eyes were punched out of red glimmer paper and Early Espresso card stock using the "eye" circles on the owl punch.  I had a package of googly eyes in my crafting stash. The greeting is from the retired set Good Greetings.  The window on the front was cut out using my Big Shot and Squares Framelits.  The frame was cut out of retired Festival of Prints Designer Series paper.
