I love the Sweet Treat Cups because they add that extra WOW by allowing you to add beads, candy and other treats into your cards and other projects.  The one drawback though is that your recipient has to tear apart the project to get to the treat.  Adding a trap door is a perfect solution for this problem!

Stencil Cut Flower Patch Cards

Flower Patch 010

I recently made up a bunch of thank you cards using the Big Shot and Flower Fair framelits.  I cut out the flower and stem on Whisper White card stock using the framelits and then slipped different patterned designer paper underneath.  I layered the stencil pieces to coordinating card bases and stamped a simple "thanks".  I added a coordinating Candy Dot to the center of the flower to complete.

Simple, simple and a great way to use up paper scraps!

Here's another take on the design.  I added faux stitching around the edges of the card front.  I used my paper piercing tool, template and mat to pierce the holes, then ran a marker along them to connect.

Faux Stitching 030

Stamp Set: Another Thank You

Ink: various to match the colors in the designer paper, Melon Mambo marker for faux stitching.

Paper: various card stock and designer paper

Accessories: Big Shot, Flower Fair Framelits, Candy Dots, Dimensionals, paper piercing tool, template and mat

Stencil Cut Striped Feather-Nacho Average Color Challenge #142

We have a bright color challenge this week over at the Nacho Average site: Strawberry Slush, Coastal Cabana and Crisp Cantaloupe!

Here's my contribution:

Four Feathers 014

These three colors are retiring on June 2nd.  I'm so sad.  The 2013-2105 In Colors quickly became my favorites.  Strawberry Slush, Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloupe, Pistachio Pudding and Baked Brown Sugar.  I used them a lot, and I will miss them!

So to go along with the retiring colors, I used mostly retiring items to create this card: Says it All stamp set, Feathers Framelits, Strawberry Slush and Coastal Cabana Thick Baker's Twine and 2013-2015 In Color Sequins.

To create the feather stencil, I cut the feather out of Whisper White card stock using my Big Shot and Feathers Framelits.  I adhered 1/4" wide strips of the challenge colors on a smaller piece of card stock and then set the feather stencil on top.  I added speckles from Gorgeous Grunge (not retiring!) using Coastal Cabana ink.  I added the In Color Sequins using Mini Glue Dots.  Bright, cheery and easy to do!

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entries to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Iris Folded Beach Scene

Our swap theme for the May Saturday Stamp Club was "seashells" or "beach."  Living here in the mountains of southern Colorado, sea or beach themed stamps and paper really aren't in my stash of supplies.  It's not that I don't like this theme. It's just not relative to my surroundings.  So, I turned to one of my favorite paper crafting techniques to help me: Iris Folding!  I knew I could create a sunset beach scene using various designer series papers.

Here's what I came up with:

Iris Folding landscape 002

For Iris Folding instructions (with a video tutorial), along with ideas and patterns, please visit my Iris Folding page HERE.

I started with a pattern I found in the book Iris Folding by Michelle Powell.  I don't want to share the pattern here because it is copyrighted, but a quick internet search will bring up several free iris folding pattern sites.  Pinterest is always a good place to look for ideas and patterns.

Here's one shared by the Circleofcrafters.com site (a great site with many FREE patterns and ideas!):

Circle of Crafters Iris Folded Landscape

I used a variety of Designer Series Papers, some retired, some not.  I added some sand castle stickers that I found on sale at our local ***mart for a little 3D effect.  I wish I had more beach-themed greetings to use, but alas, it is not so.  I chose the Happy Birthday stamp from the retired set Holidays and Wishes because it was long and I've always like the font.

Stamp Set: Holidays and Wishes

Ink: Island Indigo

Paper: Whisper White, Island Indigo, various Designer Series Paper

Accessories: Paper trimmer,1 1 /4" circle punch, sand castle stickers

Starburst Sayings Chalkboard SignBoard

Starburst Sayings 003

Here's another Chalkboard Signboard card inspired by the Nacho Average Sketch Challenge #141.

I used images from retiring Starburst Sayings stamp set stamped in Yellow Citrus and Aquamarine ColorBox Chalk inks and cut them out using the coordinating Starburst Framelits and Big Shot.

For best results using the Chalkboard inks, be sure to stamp on the smooth, "velvety" side of the chalkboard paper.  To create the sign board, start with a piece of card stock measuring 11" x 4 1/4" and score at 5 1/2".  Using a paper trimmer, cut 1/2" from each side and 1 1/2" up using a paper trimmer.

Another Thank You Chalk Board-Nacho Average Challenge #141

Check out our fun sketch this week over at the Nacho Average Challenge site!

Here's my contribution:

Another Thank You 011

For this card, I created a quick and easy chalkboard signboard.  To create the sign board, start with a piece of card stock measuring 11" x 4 1/4" and score at 5 1/2".  Using a paper trimmer, cut 1/2" from each side and 1 1/2" up using a paper trimmer.

The greeting is from Another Thank You and is stamped on a piece of Chalkboard Paper using Whisper White craft ink.  I drew lines around the edges of the chalkboard using a Chalk Pen.  I lightly sponged Whisper White craft ink along the edges to give it the chalkboard look.  The heart is punched from the Owl Builder Punch.  Tip: For best results using the Chalkboard inks, be sure to stamp on the smooth, "velvety" side of the chalkboard paper.

All Abloom and Vellum Mini Treat Bag Envelope

I love using the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Die to create vellum envelopes.  Then you can insert one sheet cards made with pretty Designer Series Paper allowing the pretty colors of the paper to show through the vellum. Here's one I created using a sheet of paper from the All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack.

Mini Treat Bag Thinlits 001

Mini Treat Bag Thinlits 002

On the back of the card, I stamped an image from Bordering Blooms in Mossy Meadow ink.  Then, I colored in the flowers using Pistachio Pudding, Strawberry Slush, Pink Pirouette and Hello Honey inks and Blender Pens.

Mini Treat Bag Thinlits 004

A fun alternative to a regular card and so easy to do!

Happy Mother's Day Butterfly-Nacho Average Color Challenge #140

Our challenge colors this week over at the Nacho Average site are Baked Brown Sugar, Crisp Cantaloupe and Bermuda Bay.

Here's my contribution:

Butterfly Thinlits 003

For this card, I started by inking the inside (raised side) of the Spring Flowers Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, inserting a piece of Whisper White card stock and then running it through the Big Shot.  By inking the raised side of the embossing folder, the embossed image stays white while the background picks up the color.

I used the Butterfly Thinlits die to cut the butterfly out of Bermuda Bay card stock.  To help release the cut butterfly from the thinlit, I added a piece of waxed paper to the Big Shot "sandwich" (placed in between the card stock and the thinlit).

Butterfly Thinlits 002

The butterfly is also cut out of the wax paper which I added to the top of my Bermuda Bay butterfly for a little extra pop of interest.

Lace and Lovely 004
