ClockWorks Happy Birthday

Clockworks 039

Our swap theme for the February Sunday Stamp Club was "masculine birthday."  I find that masculine-themed cards are sometimes hard to pull off, so I recently scoured Pinterest for some ideas.  I found inspiration for this card on Laura Bassan's website.  On the inspiration card, Laura had used acrylic paint for the swipe.  Instead, I used Marina Mist reinker brushed on with a wide foam brush.  The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and I got out long retired Clockworks (one of my all-time favorite stamp sets-great for masculine cards) to complete the images on the card.  I used almost all of my circle punches for this one!  This didn't end up being my swap card, but I like it, and it's ready to be used when I need a masculine birthday card!

Other Supplies: Clockworks stamp set (retired), foam brush

Masculine Happy Birthday-Nacho Average Color Challenge #130

Our color challenge this week over at the Nacho Average Challenge site are  Basic Gray, Tangelo Twist and Crushed Curry.

 Here's my contribution:

Masculine birthdays 004

Recently, I needed a masculine birthday card and these colors just seemed to lend themselves to that theme.  I wanted something clean and simple so I stamped a birthday greeting on my Very Vanilla card front using Basic Gray ink and then placed 1/2" wide strips card stock in the challenge colors around the greeting. Simple, yet effective!

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entries to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

 Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Wish Big (from My Paper Pumpkin kit)

Ink: Basic Gray

Stained Glass Butterfly

Butterflies Thinlits 017

I am loving the new Butterfly Thinlits from Stampin' Up!  After a long, snowy winter here in the mountains of southern Colorado, I am ready for a touch of spring!

For this card, I cut the medium butterfly out of Basic Black card stock and attached it to a piece of vellum card stock with a small strip of SNAIL adhesive.  I then colored through the openings on the butterfly onto the vellum underneath using Night of Navy and Old Olive Blendabilities giving it a stained glass effect.  The possibilities are endless by using different colors of the Blendabilities.  I stamped images from Butterfly Basics and Gorgeous Grunge in Pear Pizzazz, Soft Sky and Tuxedo Black inks to complete the card.

Butterfly Basics-Sending Wishes Your Way

A quick and simple card using Butterfly Thinlits and coordinating Butterfly Basics stamp set found in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog.

Butterflies Thinlits 021

I really like how the images in Butterfly Basics are different styles, yet come together for a great collage effect.  I cut 2 butterflies: 1 out of Lost Lagoon card stock and 1 out of Gold Soiree Designer Series Paper.  I layered 1 on top of the other using a Dimensional for a little pop and interest.

Folded Star-Nacho Average Color Challenge #128

We have a soft color palette for this week's Nacho Average color challenge:

Blushing Bridge, Pink Pirouette and Smoky Slate.

Here's my contribution:

Folded Star 051

For this card I used the  Folded Star Technique using Smoky Slate card stock and Designer Series Paper and Pink Pirouette Designer Series Paper built on a piece of 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" white card stock base.  I cut a circle out of a 4"x 4" Pink Pirouette card front using my Big Shot and Circles Framelits.  I then embossed it with the Big Shot and Stylish Stripes Embossing Folder.  I secured the folded star behind the cut circle using SNAIL adhesive and added a Blushing Bride ring to the front to finish it off.  I added a Blushing Bride Candy Dot to the center of the star, then mounted it on a Smoky Slate card base using Dimensionals.  The colors reminded me of a baby card, so I added a sweet sentiment using Teeny Tiny Wishes and cut it out using the Big Shot and Bitty Banners Framelits.

Baby Wipe Landscape Background-Serene Silhouettes

Recently, I was cleaning out my craft room and I came across several dried baby wipes that I had used to clean some stamp sets.  I remember thinking the interesting ink patterns left on the baby wipes could be used for backgrounds for cards in the future.  I was pleasantly surprised when I found them, and thought I better use one or two right away to test my theory.

Serene Silhouettes 082

I like it!  It has a soft, fuzzy appearance and texture.  And you can see the light imprint on the baby wipe which adds more texture and interest.  I stamped the images using Early Espresso ink.  The birds/branches came out a little too light, so I filled in the images using my Early Espresso marker. I used this week's Nacho Average sketch for this one, so hence the banners on each side.

So, don't throw those baby wipes or paper towels away after using them to clean stamps or as blotters.  They just might give you inspiration for a pretty and interesting background!

Supplies Used: Baby Wipe, Colors on the baby wipe? I'm guessing Tempting Turquoise, Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight-it's a mixture of colors cleaned off a stamp(s).

Paint Chip Thank You-Nacho Average Sketch Challenge #127

We have an interesting sketch this week over at the Nacho Average site.

Here's my contribution:

Paint Chips 012

Inspiration for this card came when I recently did some cleanup in my craft room and came across some paint chips I had picked up at the local hardware store a few months back.  One of my favorite things to craft with are paint chips.  There are so many color choices so the possibilities are endless!  For this card, I simply cut the paint chip into 1/2" wide strips, then staggered them onto a piece of white card stock covered with a Stampin' Glue Stick.  I stamped the greeting from Another Thank You using Black Stazon ink.  The banners and the small pink heart were cut out of paint chip scraps using my Big Shot, Bitty Banners Framelit, and the heart from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack.  Love the combination of the bright pinks.
