Embossed Hardwood and Happy Congratulations Card

This is the card I sent to my dad for his recent 80th birthday!

Happy Congratulations 027

The background is the stamp Hardwood (my new favorite) stamped onto my  Early Espresso card base in Versamark, then heat embossed using clear embossing powder.  The lanterns are from the Happy Congratulations stamp set currently found in the Spring Occasions catalog, but retiring on June 1.  I stamped the full image onto my embossed background using Versamark, then heat embossed using white embossing powder.  I then stamped the individual lantern image on various colors of card stock using versamark, then heat embossed again using white embossing powder.  I then punched them out using my 1" circle punch and layered them on top of the full image using Dimensionals.  I am sorry to see Happy Congratulations retire.  These colorful lanterns makes it look like a party is about to happen, and they always make me smile!

Stamp Sets: Hardwood, Happy Congratulations, Sassy Salutations

Ink: Early Espresso, Versamark

Paper: Early Espresso, Crushed Curry, Pool Party, Cherry Cobbler, Wild Wasabi, Calypso Coral

Accessories: Embossing Buddy, heat tool, clear and white embossing powders, 1" circle punch, Dimensionals

Emboss Resist Ex Libris-Nacho Average Challenge #90

Our challenge colors this week over at the Nacho Average challenge site are Crisp Cantaloupe, Night of Navy and Summer Starfruit.

Here is my contribution:

Ex Libre 001

For this card, I used two retiring stamp sets, Ex Libris and Fabulous Florets (the greeting).  I used the emboss resist technique for the background.  First I stamped the Ex Libris image on a piece of Whisper White card stock using Versamark, then heat embossed it using white embossing powder.  I then sponged on Crisp Cantaloupe, Summer Starfruit and Night of Navy.  The ink resists where the image has been embossed.

I made the flower out of Creped Filter Paper.  I punched 2 pieces each using the Blossom and Pansy punches.  I mixed rubbing alcohol, a drop or two of Night of Navy reinker and Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz in a Stampin' Spritzer bottle.  I shook it to mix, then spritzed it onto my punched pieces.  I layered them one on top of the other and secured them together with a glimmer brad.  Then, I crunched them up and let them dry.  Once dry, I simply fluffed them open a little.  The leaves are from the "wing" of the Bird Builder punch.

I am really sorry to see both these stamp sets retiring.  I just purchased Ex Libris and haven't used it much.  I love the greeting from Fabulous Florets and use it often.

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entries to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Tangled Pocket Full of Posies

One of my first tangled projects.

Zentangle 024

I used the pocket template to practice tangling different designs.  It was the perfect size so it  didn't seem too intimidating.

Here are some of the tangled pockets I came up with.  Any of these could be added to the card.

I'm still learning....

Sunburst Little Leaves-Nacho Average Sketch Challenge #89

We have a fun, yet simple sketch challenge this week over at the Nacho Average site.

Here's my contribution:

Little Leaves 004

When I first saw this sketch, I immediately thought I would use the Little Leaves Sizzlit which I recently purchased.  I had every intention of cutting out the leaf pattern from a piece of card stock.  But, the sizzlit comes with a small piece of foam packing which I noticed when I first opened it up.  "Mmmm" I thought to myself. "Why couldn't I use the sizzlit to cut out the leaf image right out of the packaging?"  I certainly could, and that is exactly what I did.  The cut out has a nice texture to it which I really like.  And what a great way to recycle and reuse!

To add a touch of bling, the small dots around the leaves were punched out of red glimmer paper using the Owl Builder punch.   The banner underneath the greeting was also cut out of red glimmer paper using the Big Shot and a Banners framelit.

Now for the sunburst background.  I lightly marked the center of my So Saffron card front using a pencil.  Then, I took a  piece of scrap card stock and lined it up with that mark to use as my template.  I sponged Pumpkin Pie ink along the edge of the template, then rotated it to another area of the card front, making sure that it was still lined up with the center mark.  I continued rotating it all around the card front until I had cool sun rays coming from the center.  When I was done, I simply sponged on more Pumpkin Pie ink to the center to create a larger circle.  Easy peasy!

Tangled Hummingbird

Oh my, I have caught the Zentangle bug!  I seem to do a little bit of tangling each day.

I created several of these fun cards to send as thank you's to my customers.

Zentangle 032

I used a pre-printed sketch of the hummingbird found in the book Art of Zentangle.  I simply copied the sketch image out of the book onto a piece of Vellum Bristol Board paper.  Then, all I had to do was fill in the hummer with tangles.  I would never have been able to draw the hummingbird myself, so I gave myself permission to cheat a little by using the sketch in this wonderful book.  After all, Zentangle is supposed to be soothing, and I just took the stress of drawing right out of the equation!

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Teeny Tiny Wishes (for the greeting)

Ink: archival pens, pencil for shading

Paper: Basic Black, Vellum Bristol Board

Accessories: blending stump, Dimensionals
