Vivid Vases-CASology Purple Challenge

"Purple" is our CASology cue word this week.  Purple is my favorite color, so I had to participate!

Here's my contribution:

Vivid Vases 003

For this card, I stamped Vivid Vases in Elegant Eggplant ink, then heat embossed using clear embossing powder.  I then colored in the vases and flowers using Blender Pens and Pool Party, Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Gumball Green inks.  I added a Elegant Eggplant Candy Dot for a little interest.  I also tapped  the piece into my Elegant Eggplant ink pad to add a little color to the edges.  The card base was embossed using my Big Shot and Stripes Embossing Folder.

Looks like spring!

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Vivid Vases

Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Pool Party, Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Gumball Green

Paper: Whisper White

Accessories: Big Shot, Stripes Embossing Folder, heat tool, clear embossing powder, Blender Pens, Candy Dots

Bokeh Technique-Nacho Average Color Challenge #74

Our color challenge this week over at the Nacho Average site is Crisp Cantaloupe, Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay.

Here's my contribution:

 Bokeh 036

For this card, I created a "bokeh" background.  According to Wikipedia," the bokeh is the blur or aesthetic quality of the blur in out of focus areas of an image."  This is becoming one of my all-time favorite techniques!

I simply used the circle stencil from Build a Banner kit and sponged on the challenge colors completely filling in the color onto two pieces of Whisper White card stock.  I wanted these pieces to fit the panels on a card that was cut out using the Big Shot and Circles Card Thinlit die.  The larger panel measures 2 1/4" x 5 1/4" and the smaller measures 5/8" x 5 1/4".

For more bokeh samples, please visit my Bokeh Techniques page HERE.

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entry to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Flower Shop

Ink: Crisp Cantaloupe, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay

Paper: Bermuda Bay, Whisper White, Crisp Cantaloupe

Accessories: Big Shot, Circles Card Thinlit die, Pansy and 2 3/8" Scallop Circle Punches, Build and Banner Kit, In Color Boutique Details, sponge daubers, Mini Glue Dots

A Whole Lot of Love Promotion Ends January 27

Whole Lot of LoveStampin' Up! has made making Valentine's Day projects quick and easy with their

A Whole Lot of Love Promotion which ends January 27, 2014!

Stamp sets, treat bags, cards and even Monster Valentines!

I purchased the Sweet Sayings Cards and Envelopes (12 printed card and 12 envelopes(four Real Red, four Pool Party and four Crisp Cantaloupe) for only $5.95) because I liked the idea of having printed card bases all ready to go.  These offer a quick and easy jumping off place to stamp and decorate as I like.

Here are some ideas:

Sweet Sayings 002

I opted out from purchasing the coordinating stamp sets  (Love You More, Follow Your Heart and Flowerfull Heart).  Instead, I decided to use some of the retired Valentine's stamps I have in my stash.  For this card, I used the heart from Always stamped in Coastal Cabana and the greeting from All Holidays stamped in Real Red.

Sweet Sayings 007

For this card, I used one of my new all-time favorite bundles: Flower Shop stamp set and Pansy punch.  I stamped 2 flowers using Coastal Cabana ink, then added a Real Red flower that I stamped and punched out using the Pansy punch.  It is popped up using a Dimensional, and I added a rhinestone to the center for a little bling.  The greeting is from Sassy Salutations.

Sweet Sayings 015

For this card, I heat embossed the image from Vivid Vases (found in the Spring Occasions catalog and fast becoming another one of my favorites!) using Tempting Turquoise embossing powder.  I then colored in the vases and flowers using  Blender Pens and Pool Party, Real Red, Crisp Cantaloupe and Gumball Green ink.

I hope I was able to show you the versatility of the Sweet Sayings Cards and Envelopes.

Blooming With Kindness-CASology "Contrast" Challenge

"Contrast" is our cue word this week over at CASology.

Here's my contribution:

Blooming With Kindness 006

I used the emboss resist technique for this one layer card for a white contrast to a colorful background.

First, I made a square stencil to use as my mask on my Whisper White card base.  I used the Big Shot and Square Framelits to cut a square out of a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of computer paper.  I used Dotto temporary adhesive to fasten it to the card base while I worked. I stamped the flower and dot images from Blooming with Kindness and Gorgeous Grunge stamp sets in Whisper White craft ink, then heat embossed using white embossing powder. I used the direct to paper method and swiped color over the embossed images using Raspberry Ripple, Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight inks.  It helps that the ink pads I used are the new foam pads from Stampin' Up!  They are more goopy and wet, similar to the old craft ink pads.  This helps with the smearing and blending.  After I added the colors, I wiped off the white embossed images using a paper towel, making them pop.  The embossing resists any color put on it.

Supplies Used:

Stamp Sets: Blooming with Kindness, Gorgeous Grunge, Sincere Salutations

Ink: Raspberry  Ripple, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White craft ink

Paper: Whisper White

Accessories: Big Shot, Square Framelits, computer paper, heat tool, white embossing powder, paper towel

Shades of Gray Mixed Bunch-Nacho Average Challenge #73

We have a "wavy" sketch challenge this week over at the Nacho Average Challenge site.

Here's my contribution:

Mixed Medley 009

This card has a dual purpose.  It is my contribution to the Nacho Average #73 sketch challenge, and it also my swap card for my upcoming Saturday Stamp Club.  The swap theme is any occasion "shades of gray."  A pop of color is ok.

I used my Big Shot and Tasteful Trim die to create the waves in Basic Gray.  They are layered on a piece of Smoky Slate.  The flower from Mixed Bunch was stamped using Versamark on a piece of vellum, then heat embossed using Tempting Turquoise embossing powder.

Here's the original sketch:

Our CASology cue word this week is "Dot."

Blowing Bubbles-CASology "Bubbly" Challenge

Our CASology cue word this week is "bubbly."

Here's my contribution:

Blowing bubbles 003

I was not planning on participating in this week's challenge just because I have so much going on.  I had put it out of my mind until suddenly I remembered learning a fun bubble painting technique years ago.  Then I knew I had to play!

This technique is fun and easy.

What you need:

cups-You'll need 1 for each color you are working with.  I started out with an old coffee mug for the first color, then got out plastic cups for the next 2 colors.

water

dish soap

paint-I used Stampin' Up! reinkers ( Midnight Muse, Strawberry Slush, Daffodil Delight)

watercolor paper

straw

something to cover your work surface.  This technique can be messy!

I didn't measure anything.  If you need more bubbles, add more soap.  If you need more color, add more paint.

1. Fill cups with water and dish soap.  Stir to mix.

2. Add paint.  Stir to mix.

Blowing bubbles 001

3. Using a straw, blow bubbles in the water/soap mix.  Blow them so the bubbles are above the rim of the cup.

4. Place the watercolor paper on top of the bubbles, allowing some of them to stick to the paper.

Blowing bubbles 002

5. Continue adding other colors as desired.

6. When done, lay the paper down on your work surface.  As the bubbles pop and dry, an outline of the bubbles will remain on the paper.  The key is to let the bubbles pop and dry completely.

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Wishes Your Way

Ink: Midnight Muse, Strawberry Slush, Daffodil Delight

Paper: Watercolor, Midnight Muse

Accessories: cups, dish soap, water, straw
