Christmas Giving-Money or Check Holder

This year, my husband and I seem to be mostly giving checks as our Christmas gifts to family members.  I wanted to spruce up the packaging just a little bit so I came up with these quick and easy money or check holders.

Check holders 005

Check holders 009

Here are the instructions:

Start with a piece of card stock or Designer Series Paper measuring 7 1/2" x 7".  On the 7 1/2" side, score at 5 1/8" and 2".  Fold along the scored lines to create the pocket and top flap.  Secure the sides of the pocket using Sticky Strip.   Cut a piece of coordinating card stock or Designer Series paper measuring 6 3/4" x 1 3/4" for the top flap.  Then decorate the front and inside as desired.  You can wrap ribbon around the front to keep the holder closed.  Or add a little bit of Dotto temporary adhesive to the inside of the embellishment like I did.  This is a great way to use up some of those paper and ribbon scraps.

Change up the paper for any occasion gift giving!

Supplies Used:

Stamp Sets: Warmth and Wonder, Christmas Collectibles

Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Baked Brown Sugar, Old Olive

Paper: Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White, Season of Style Designer Series Paper

Accessories: Large Oval Decorative Label and Christmas Ornament punches, rhinestone, Dotto temporary adhesive

Warmth and Wonder Christmas Greetings-NAC Color Challenge 68

We have a color challenge this week over at the Nacho Average site:

Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Basic Black

Nac68

Here's my contribution:

Warmth and Wonder 018

I'm still in Christmas card making mode, and even though these are not the traditional Christmas colors, I decided to run with it.  This is a very clean and simple design using the Warmth and Wonder Hostess set.  I stamped the tree using Basic Black, then 2-step stamped the ornaments in Melon Mambo.  The star was stamped using Daffodil Delight.  I ran a small line of Dazzling Details under the tree and added small drops to the ornaments for a little sparkle.

Clean and simple, but this is one of my favorite Christmas cards I've created this season.

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entry to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Warmth and Wonder

Ink: Basic Black, Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight

Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White

Accessories: Dazzling Details

Dryer Sheet Patterned Pines

Using dryer sheets in my crafting is one of my favorite stampin' techniques. And it is a great way to re-use and recycle!

Patterned Pines Dryer Sheet 007

Dryer Sheet Technique, what you need:

-used dryer sheet

-Xyron machine, spray adhesive or glue stick

-Dazzling Diamonds or fine glitter

1. Stamp your image onto regular white card stock.

2. Run image through Xyron machine, spray the image with spray adhesive, or rub glue stick over the image.  I would suggest putting the card stock in a shallow card board box before spraying.  The spray adhesive will stick to anything and everything including the kitchen sink!  And it is not easy to cleanup up.  The Xyron and glue stick methods are certainly less messy!

3. Attach the dryer sheet to the top of the image.  Trim dryer sheet as needed.

4. Pour Dazzling Diamonds or glitter over dryer sheet and rub in.  Tap off excess glitter.

That's it!  And it really sparkles in person!

Patterned Pines Dryer Sheet 002-1

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Patterned Pines

Ink: Old Olive, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler

Paper: Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Season of Style Designer Series Paper

Accessories: dryer sheet, glue stick, Dazzling Diamonds, ribbon and button out of my stash, Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine, Mini Glue Dot

Another Thank You-Nacho Average Sketch Challenge #67

We have a sketch challenge this week over at the Nacho Average Challenge site.

Here's my contribution:

Another Thank You 007

I actually found this sketch to be frustrating.  After several attempts with the end product just not coming together, I finally had to walk away.  After thinking about it for a couple of days, I decided I was over thinking it, and I just needed to go with a clean and simple design.  From there, it just fell into place, and I really like the outcome.

First, I stamped the sentiment using 3 stamps (the heart, the "thank you" and the "so much") found in the Another Thank You photopolymer stamp set.  I built them all on the same clear block, inked them up using Versamark, stamped, then heat embossed using black embossing powder.

I then simply colored in blocks using Pool Party, Pink Pirouette and Wonder Wisteria markers.  I laid a mask on the right side of the card front so the ends of each block would be straight.  The rest was pretty much free hand, although, I did draw a line using a ruler and the markers for the top and bottom blocks.  Coloring within the lines has not always been my strong suit, so it helped to have a visual starting and stopping point to keep me in line.

Here's the original sketch:

Ribbon Ornament Card-CASology "Ribbon" Challenge

"Ribbon" is our cue word over at Casology this week.

Here's my contribution:

Ribbon ornament 006

The inspiration for this card came from my stash of little pieces of left over ribbon.  I can never seem to throw ribbon away, no matter how short the piece is!

First, I cut an ornament out of a 3" x 3 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock using my Big Shot and the circle ornament from the Holiday Ornament Framelits Collection.  I then added pieces of ribbon to the back side, securing each piece with SNAIL adhesive.  Once completed, I mounted it to a piece of Real Red matting and added a metallic silver bow to the front.  That's it!  Simple, simple, and a great way to use up ribbon scraps.

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Greetings of the Season

Ink: Real Red

Paper: Whisper White, Real Red

Accessories: Big Shot, Holiday Ornaments Framelits, scraps of ribbon, SNAIL Adhesive

Sock Snowmen

These guys are certain to bring a smile!

Sock Snowmen 023

I saw the idea to make sock snowmen on Pinterest, and I knew I had to give it a try.  I followed the instructions provided by Brittany over at  Darkroom and Dreary.  I thought about creating my own set of instructions, but I certainly couldn't have done any better as Brittany's are very easy to follow with good step-by-step photos.  Thanks Brittany!

I used boys crew socks that I purchased as a package of 6 from our local dollar store.  The socks are filled with rice.  The faces were made with small ball head straight pins. The scarves are made using scrap pieces of fabric that Stampin' Up! used to sell.

The flower on the girl's hat was made using the fabric strip flower technique.

Instructions can be found HERE

Sock Snowmen 017

The pom pom on the top of her hat was made using various colors of baker's twine looped and tied together, then the loops were cut open.

Sock Snowmen 015

I hot-glued on buttons I had in my stash.

Vellum Poinsettia-Nacho Average Color Challenge #66

We have a really pretty color challenge this week over at the Nacho Average challenge site.

Nac66
Island Indigo, Pool Party and Calypso Coral

It's Christmas card making season, so I'm making cards using the colors and sketches from the Nacho challenges.  These are non-traditional Christmas colors, but I really like them.

Here's my contribution:

Joyful Christmas 011

For this one, I used the poinsettia image from the stamp set Joyful Christmas.  I stamped it using Versamark on vellum card stock, then heat embossed it with Pool Party embossing powder.  I cut it out using a pair of scissors (sorry, no punch or die for this one), then colored the image using my Calypso Coral marker.  The pearls were colored with my Island Indigo marker, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The greeting is also from the Joyful Christmas set and was simply stamped using Island Indigo ink.   This one really pops in person!

Stamp Set:  Joyful Christmas

Ink: Island Indigo, Versamark, Calypso Coral and Island Indigo markers

Paper: Island Indigo, Whisper White, vellum card stock

Accessories: heat tool, Pool Party embossing powder, clear embossing powder, pearls
