Sponged Serene Silhouettes-Nacho Average Challenge #44

We have a pretty color challenge this week over at the Nacho Average challenge site:

Elegant Eggplant, Wisteria Wonder and Basic Gray

NAC 44
Here's my contribution:

Serene Silhouettes 038

For this card, I created an oval mask for sponging and stamping using the Big Shot and Oval Framelits.  I simply laid the mask over my glossy card front, sponged on some Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant ink, then stamped the image from Serene Silhouettes using Basic Gray.  I removed the mask and let the ink dry.  While the ink was drying, I created an oval frame, again using the Big Shot and 2 of the Oval Framelits, one nestled inside the other.

I struggled with the photography of this card.  It is brighter and has more shading in person :(

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entry to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Candy Sprinkle Spring-Nacho Average Sketch Challenge #43

We have a sketch challenge over at the Nacho Average Challenge site.

Here's my contribution:

Candy sprinkles 008

I recently saw the idea of using candy sprinkles to create a card in a recent Paper Crafts Magazine, and I knew I had to give it a try!

It is so simple.  All you need is the candy sprinkles you have in your kitchen cabinet (you know, the ones you use to decorate the top of cakes and cupcakes) and a spritzer bottle with water.

Simply spritz your card stock (I actually used watercolor paper, but regular card stock will work) lightly with water and sprinkle on the candy sprinkles direct from the bottle.  Lightly spritz the paper again with water and set aside to dry.  Brush off the sprinkles after they've dried.  The candy sprinkles will dissolve in the water, leaving little blobs and marks on the paper, and creating a cool swirly abstract background.

Candy sprinkles 001

This is one of those projects where each one will turn out differently!  Celebrate spring with bright colors!

In Color Happy Birthday Present

By the way, this is my 1000th post!!!

One of our challenges for this month's Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew was to use our least favorite of the 2011-2013 In Colors (Calypso Coral, Island Indigo, Lucky Limeade, Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder).

Well, I couldn't choose my least favorite because I like and use all of them!

So, I created this Happy Birthday Present card using 1" strips of Designer Series Paper in each of the 5 colors for a clean and simple design.  This is a great way to use up paper scraps!

Spring Bird Bath-Nacho Average #42

Soft Suede, Midnight Muse and Old Olive are our colors for this week's Nacho Average challenge.

NAC 42

Here's my contribution:

Bird bath 010

Which was inspired by this photo found in a catalog I recently received from Audubon Workshop!  I thought this was so pretty and could be easily replicated using the challenge colors.

Bird bath inspiration

To make the bird bath, I first stamped on a scrap piece of Very Vanilla using the Elements of Style stamp set in Midnight Muse ink.  I then cut out the piece using my Big Shot and the smallest oval of the Oval Collection Framelits. I added Crystal Effects to the bowl to simulate water and set the whole thing aside to dry.

The rim of the bird bath was cut out of Soft Suede using the 2nd to the smallest oval framelit. The base of the bird bath was cut out of Soft Suede using one of the Holiday Ornaments framelits.  Both the rim and the base were then embossed using the Big Shot and Houndstooth Embossing Folder.

I shaped and turned up the rim and basin slightly with my fingernails, then built the bird bath on my Very Vanilla card front that had been embossed using the Big Shot and Honeycomb Embossing Folder.  Everything was popped off the card front using Dimensionals.

I punched the bird out of Soft Suede Neutrals Designer Series Paper using my Bird Builder punch.  I also created the grass out of a scrap piece of Old Olive card stock that I first embossed using my Big Shot and Vine Embossing Folder.  I snipped the top edge with a pair of scissors and then fluffed this way and that.

Once the Crystal Effects was completely dried (about 1 hour sitting on top of my pellet stove), I added the bowl to the rim using Dimensionals.  I assembled the whole piece to the Midnight Muse card base, then added the bird, again using Dimensionals.

Here are the bird bath pieces:

Sunny Day in the Mountains-Punched Trees

I liked this week's Nacho Average challenge sketch so much, that I decided to create one more entry!

Punched mountains 001

This little scene was inspired by the view  out my front window  looking at the mountains on the other side of our highway.  Spring has sprung somewhat here in southern Colorado.  I know we are in store for a little bit more winter, but we enjoy our bright sunny days as much as possible.

Quartz Technique Out to Sea

We have a quick and simple sketch this week over at the Nacho Average Challenge site.

Here's my contribution:

Quartz technique 079

For this card, I used the Quartz Technique to create a seascape background.

Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight inks mixed with the Whisper White make for an interesting sunset!  Love the swirling colors.

Quartz technique 083

I intentionally left off the sentiment because I am not sure who will be getting this card or what the occasion will be.  I have a couple of masculine birthdays coming up and then there is Father's Day.  So we'll see....

Fine Feathers Vase-Nacho Average Color Challenge #40

This week's challenge over at the Nacho Average site is a color challenge:

Perfect Plum, Lucky Limeade and Pool Party!

NAC 40

Here's my contribution:

Fine Feathers 025

I instantly thought "feathers" when I saw this color combination.  So, out came Fine Feathers, one of my favorite stamp sets.

I used the masking technique to stamp the feathers.  Since I use this stamp set often, I have created masks for each of the feather images in the set by simply stamping them on a Post-it-Note and cutting them out.  I keep the masks in the case with the stamp set to reuse as needed.

First, I masked the center tall feather and stamped the smaller feathers to each side of the mask using Pool Party ink.  I then removed the center masking and stamped the tall feather using Perfect Plum.

For the vase, I punched a piece of Lucky Limeade card stock using the Ornament Punch.  I embossed it using the Big Shot and Fancy Fan Embossing Folder, then trimmed it straight off at the bottom of the ornament.

Very easy!

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entry to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.
