Construction Zone Reflection Technique

Construction Zone Reflection Technique

Construction Zone Reflection Technique

for our Christmas card for our four-year old grandson.

Our grandson loves all things mechanical, and I purchased the Construction Zone stamp set for making cards just for him.

(You can see his Construction Zone birthday card here)

For his Christmas card, I knew I wanted to create 2 cranes at a construction site holding a Christmas greeting banner.

But, the image of found in the Construction Zone stamp set would have the crane facing left, and I needed one facing right so they could be holding the banner.

Mmm, how could I accomplish that?

Easy, with the Reflection Technique!

Construction Zone Reflection Technique How-to:

Reflection Technique:

  • Place the crane image upside down on the plate of a stamp positioning tool like the Stamparatus.  Ink with Memento Black ink and stamp on a craft silicone mat. You could also use a piece of vellum.  Ink and stamp the image several times so you get a dark stamped image.
  • Remove the silicone mat (or vellum) and place upside down on a piece of Basic White card stock.  Rub the image onto the card stock using your fingertips, transferring the image.
  • Remove the mat.  The image will not be sharp (remember, it’s a reflection).  I simply traced the lines of the image using a fine-point Sharpie.  Fussy cut the crane and color to match the left-facing crane.

Done!

Now to complete the card:

1. Stamp second crane on Basic White card stock using Memento Black ink.  Fussy cut and color both cranes using Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce Stampin’ Write Markers.

2. Lightly sponge Balmy Blue ink on Basic White card front to add a touch of sky. Attach to Cherry Cobbler card base.  Lightly sponge Balmy Blue ink on the cranes to match the sky.

3. Tear a piece of Crumb Cake card stock to create the job-site dirt mounds.  Stamp speckles from Quiet Meadow and sponge edges using Crumb Cake ink.  Attach to card front using Dimensionals to pop it up.

4. Stamp greeting on a scrap piece of Basic White card stock using Cherry Cobbler ink.  I used the greeting from the retired stamp set, Tree Angle.  Attach to Cherry Cobbler mat.

5. Stamp tree on Basic White card stock using Shaded Spruce ink.  Again, I used the retired stamp set, Tree Angle.  Fussy cut or punch using tree punch.  Cut a narrow piece of Early Espresso card stock for the tree trunk.

6. Attach the cranes on top of the dirt mounds using Dimensionals to pop them up.  Attach trunk and tree at the bottom of the dirt mound using Dimensionals to pop up the tree.  Attach the banner in between the cranes using Dimensionals to pop it up.

7.  Color pearls using Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blend, and attach to the tree and crane to complete.
