Floating Strips with Aspen Die
The floating strips technique is a great way to use up paper scraps!
And for this card, I paired the technique with the leaves found in the Aspen Tree Dies
Recently, I was cleaning up my paper-cutting workspace.
This is what it looked like as I started sorting card stock and designer paper and putting the usable scraps back into the individual color slots in my card stock storage shelves.
It’s always a decision-making process.
What is the minimum size of the paper scraps should I keep or toss?
I hate to throw away card stock, but I don’t want my shelves filled with little bits of paper!
One solution: Some of the narrower strips can be used for stamping greetings or in this case, making floating strips!
Floating Strips with Aspen Die How To:
- Cut 1/8″-1/2″ wide strips of card stock. Glue the strips to a clear window or transparency sheet large enough for the punches or dies you will be using. Be careful with the placement of the glue, making sure it is only on the strip of card stock. You don’t want it showing through the window or transparency sheet.
- Punch or die-cut a shape out of the transparency. I used the leaf die found in the Aspen Tree Die set for this card.
- I attached more strips of scrap card stock onto the top and bottom of the Soft Sea Foam card front. Then, I embossed the strips using the Leaf Fall embossing folder.
- Stamp the greeting (Pansy Patch) onto the card front using Blackberry Bliss ink.
- Attach the card front to Gold Foil mat. Attach to Blackberry Bliss card base.
- Attach the leaves using Mini Dimensionals to pop them up. Place the Dimensionals on the back side of the strips of card stock so they are not seen from the front.
- Tie a bow out of baker’s Twine (Mossy Meadow from my stash) and attach using a Glue Dot.
Done!
And a great way to use up those paper scraps.
