Watercolor Swipe Background-Aspen Dies

Watercolor Swipe Background
Featuring Aspen Dies

The aspens are starting to turn color here in the mountains of southern Colorado.

This is my favorite time of year!

I created this card to celebrate with the Watercolor Swipe Background in Fall colors.

Then, I added the top layer cut out of Basic White card stock using a die-cut machine and the Aspen Dies.

This is stage one of the card without leaves.

I liked the card well enough, but I thought it needed the changing colors of the leaves.
Luckily, the Aspen die set comes with a cluster of leaves die.

It looks like Fall!

The Watercolor Swipe Background Technique is super easy to do!

Here’s How:

  1. Lightly spritz a piece of watercolor paper with water.  You don’t want it dripping wet.  Just wet enough to provide a base of water for the colors.
  2. Place a drop of re-inker on the top of an ink pad for your color palette.  I used Crushed Curry, Mango Melody, Calypso Coral, and Old Olive for this card.
  3. With an aqua or water painter, pick up the first color from the pool of ink in the ink pad.  Swipe across the wet watercolor paper.  You can make it as light or as dark as you want.  My first color was Crushed Curry, swiped along the middle of the watercolor paper.
  4. Clean the painter and add the next color above the first color.  My second color was Mango Melody.
  5. Clean the painter and add the top color.  My third color was Calypso Coral.
  6. Clean the painter and add the bottom color.  My fourth color was Old Olive.
  7. Continue to add ink to brighten if desired.  Once satisfied, set the piece aside to dry.
  8. Cut the Aspen trees out of Basic White card stock using a die-cut machine and the Aspen Die.
  9. Stamp greeting using Early Espresso ink.  I used the “hello there” greeting in Peekaboo Farm.
  10. Attach Mini Dimensionals to the back side of the aspen die-cut piece.  The trunks are broad enough, so Mini Dimensionals are a perfect fit.  Attach the trees to the watercolor background.
  11. Optional: cut the leaves out of fall-colored card stock using the Aspen Die.  My colors were So Saffron and Cajun Craze.
  12. Attach the leaves using a small amount of Liquid Glue.
  13. Attach to Early Espresso card base, and add metallic dots to complete.
