Woodland Embossing Folder

June Nacho Average Blog Hop-Sheltering Tree

Welcome to the Nacho Average Blog Hop for June.  This month we are celebrating the men in our lives by creating masculine-themed cards.

For my projects, I am featuring the stamp set Sheltering Tree.

For my first project, I created a watercolor background combined with Sheltering Tree and the Woodland Embossing Folder.

Sheltering Tree 096

I live in the mountains of southern Colorado, and this is pretty much the view of my surroundings.  Green grass, blue sky and aspen trees!

Stamp what you know!

The technique to get the colors behind the images on the embossing folder is one of my favorites.  And it is really simple to do.

First, open the embossing folder and swipe ink from ink pads onto the inside of the folder that has the name "Sizzix" on the front.  For this card, I swiped on Cucumber Crush, Crushed Curry, Tangelo Twist, Marina Mist and Island Indigo inks.  Then, I lightly spritzed it with water so the ink just begins to pool.  I then inserted a piece of watercolor paper into the folder and ran it through my Big Shot.  When done, the watercolor background is now behind the trees.  You can also add an image that will be behind the trees as well using the steps above.  Just remember to stamp your image on the inside of the folder that has the word "Sizzix" on the front.

After the watercolor paper dried, I took a black marker and filled in the bark lines on the trees.  I then stamped the small leaves from Sheltering Tree using Emerald Envy and Cucumber Crush inks.  You can't really tell from the photo, but I added clear Wink of Stella to the tree trunks, so the card has a little bit of shimmer.

The greeting is from the June Paper Pumpkin kit, Many Manly Occasions.  I stamped it using Archival Black onto a strip of watercolor paper, then added a light watercolor wash.

My second project is a watercolor sunset.

Sheltering Tree 101

I swiped and sponged on my colors (Island Indigo, Pacific Point, Marina Mist, Elegant Eggplant, Cajun Craze, Tangelo Twist and Crushed Curry) onto the watercolor paper card front.  I  lightly spritzed the colors with water, allowing them to pool and run together and then set it aside to dry.  After the paper was completely dry, I stamped the tree from Sheltering Tree in Archival Black ink, then heat embossed it with black embossing powder.  I tore a piece of Basic Black paper for the bottom of the card and embossed the greeting (Many Manly Occasions) using white embossing powder.  After I assembled the card, I swished on some Clear Wink of Stella for a little shimmer.

Thanks for stopping by.

Sheltering Tree Meets Woodland Embossing Folder-Fall Leaves

Here are a few more cards using the 3D stamping with the Woodland Embossing Folder technique

For instructions on how to do this technique, please visit my tutorial here.

Sheltering Tree 088
The leaves stamp found in Sheltering Tree were stamped on the inside of the embossing folder using Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry ink.

Sheltering Tree 089

Colors for this card are Cajun Craze, Hello honey and Rich Razzleberry.

Wonderland 034

For this card, spritz the inside of the embossing folder with Stampin' Mist or water as if you were cleaning off the ink from previous stamping.  The ink will run and pool inside the folder.  Insert an piece of watercolor paper or regular card stock and run it through the Big Shot.  You'll have a rich watercolor background behind the trees!

Wonderland 030

For this card, I simply stamped the smaller leaves image after running regular Whisper White card stock through the Big Shot using the watercolor method above.

This has become one of my all-time favorite stamping techniques.  The possibilities are endless!

Fall Leaves-Sheltering Tree meets Woodland Embossing Folder

This week's Nacho Average Color Challenge (Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Early Espresso) was my color inspiration for this card.

The technique is the newest of my all-time favorite stamping techniques.  I stamped the leaves image from Sheltering Tree using Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive inks on the inside (the side with Sizzix written on the front) of my Woodland Embossing Folder.  I stamped Rich Razzleberry first, then cleaned my stamp and stamped again using Old Olive.  I then colored in the bark lines on the trees using my Early Espresso marker.  Then, I inserted a piece of Very Vanilla card stock inside the folder and ran it through my Big Shot.  This gives you a 3D effect with the stamped leaves behind the embossed image.  Cool!

Woodland Embossing Folder-Nacho Average Color Challenge 156

I really like this week's Nacho Average color challenge: Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey and Bermuda Bay.  I decided to pair the challenge up with Woodland, my new favorite embossing folder which can be found in the upcoming Holiday Catalog from Stampin' Up! on September 1.

Woodland Embossing Folder 014

For this card, I ran my Whisper White card front through the Big Shot, embossing it with the Woodland embossing folder.  I then colored in between the trees using an aqua painter and Bermuda Bay ink.  I stamped the "aspen" leaves found in the coordinating stamp set, Among the Branches. The embossing folder and stamp set are a perfect combination for my setting in southern Colorado where we are surrounded by Aspens.  They will be changing color soon matching the Hello Honey ink!

Supplies Used:

Stamp Sets: Among the Branches, Sheltering Tree

Ink: Bermuda Bay, Hello Honey, Blackberry Bliss

Paper: Delightful Dijon (sorry, I didn't realize I was totally out of Hello Honey card stock!), Blackberry Bliss and watercolor paper

Accessories: Big Shot, Woodland Textured Embossing Folder, Aqua Painter, Octagon punch (for the banner cut), Dimensionals

Sneak Peek-Woodland Embossing Folder

Oh my!  When I opened up my copy of the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog and saw the new Woodland Textured Embossing Folder, I just knew I had to have it!  It is perfect for my setting in the mountains of southern Colorado.  The leaves are from the coordinating stamp set, Among the Branches. They were the first things I ordered on my demonstrator pre-order.  You'll be able to order them too beginning September first.

Woodland Embossing Folder 007

I used this week's Nacho Average sketch as my inspiration.

To get the shading on the trees, I sponged Soft Suede ink on the inside of the embossing folder, then ran it through the Big Shot.  A nice fall-themed card!

Ink: Tangelo Twist, Delightful Dijon, Always Artichoke,  Soft Suede

Paper: Always Artichoke, Very Vanilla
