Flurry of Wishes Snowflakes

Flurry of Wishes 006

It's that time of year again when I need to get onto the task of making Christmas cards.

So, that means pretty much every card I will be creating over the next few weeks will have a Christmas theme!

Here is my first Christmas card based on this week's Nacho Average sketch challenge and featuring the stamp set Flurry of Wishes and This Christmas Specialty Designer Paper.  I love the snowflake design on this particular sheet in the collection.

Here's the sketch.

Thoughtful Branches I Love Fall 2

Thoughtful Branches 015

Can't help myself!  I love fall colors and changing of the leaves.  I decided to continue on with my I Love Fall theme using the Beautiful Branches stamp set.  I used this week's Nacho Average Sketch challenge as my inspiration.

NAC180

I stamped the background onto my Whisper White card base using Elegant Eggplant, Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze and Old Olive inks.  I then added a piece of vellum card stock to soften the look.

The Thoughtful Branches and coordinating Beautiful Branches Thinlits dies are still available while supplies last!

Baby Wipe Background-Christmas Pines, Pretty Pines

It is week 2 of our sketch challenge #178 over at the Nacho Average site.

NAC178

Here's my contribution:

Christmas Pines 002

While this is not officially the first Christmas card I created this season, it comes pretty close!

Yes, Christmas will be here before we know it!

For this card I used the Christmas Pines stamp set and coordinating Pretty Pines Thinlits dies which can be purchased from the upcoming Holiday Catalog on Sept 1.

So, I guess this is a sneak peek!

The background is a baby wipe that I had used to clean off stamps.  I let it dry, then glued it to a scrap piece of card stock.  I could then cut it down as needed.  I like the soft fuzzy look it gives to the card.

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Christmas Pines

Ink: Cherry Cobbler, various

Paper: Mint Macaron, Emerald Envy, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler

Accessories: Big Shot, Pretty Pines Thinlits dies, rhinestones, red Sharpie pen

Touches of Texture- Nacho Average Sketch Challenge #178

This time around, we have a sketch challenge over at the Nacho Average challenge site.

NAC178

Here's my contribution:

Touches of Texture 004

For this card, I used the pretty 2- step stamp Touches of Texture and the fun Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack.

I inked up the solid image of the flower using Delightful Dijon, off stamped, then stamped onto a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I then stamped the line image of the flower using Early Espresso ink.  I used my 2" circle punch to punch out the flower, then matted it to a 2 1/2" Old Olive circle.  The greeting came from the Build a Birthday stamp set.

We hope you'll play along with this week's challenge.

There's a Linky Tool to share your card.

Outdoor Adventure-Paper Towel Background-Nacho Average Summer Fun Theme Challenge

We have one more week of our "Summer Fun" challenge over at the Nacho Average site!

Won't you play along?

Upload your creation using the Linky Tool.

You just might be our Top Nacho!

Summer Fun

Here's my contribution:

Always an Adventure 002

For this card, I created a fun landscape using some recycled paper towels that I had used to clean off stamps.

I wet the paper towels, cleaned off the stamps and then let them dry.  I have a collection of these in my stash and just could resist!

Before using the paper towels, I applied some glue from a glue stick onto a piece of Whisper White card stock backing.  They then have some weight to them, allowing me to cut them using the Big Shot and Outdoor Adventure framelits dies or trimming them with my paper cutter.

I love how the paper towels add a cool texture!

The greeting is from Sunburst Sayings and was heat embossed onto my Early Espresso card base using white embossing powder.

Other supplies: various inks as I cleaned off stamp sets using wet paper towels, paper towels, glue stick

Always an Adventure-Nacho Average Summer Fun Challenge #177

NAC177

Woo Hoo, our challenge this week over at the Nacho site is "summer fun!"

What does summer fun mean to you?

Create some summer fun, and share on the site using the Linky Tool.

We hope to see you there!

Here's my contribution:

Always an Adventure 001

I couldn't resist creating a summer fun card using the stamp set Always an Adventure and coordinating Outdoor Adventure Framelits Dies.

The mountain scene, along with the bear, perfectly fits my everyday surroundings here in the mountains of SW Colorado!  The hot air balloons are perfect too as I am originally from Albuquerque, the hot air balloon capital of the world with the annual fiesta in October.  The small town of Canon City, which is about 30 miles from me, also holds a a much smaller event, the  Balloon Classic Memorial Day weekend.

Mountains, trees, bear and balloons!  What could be better for summer fun?

Birthday Fiesta-Nacho Color Challenge #176

We have another week remaining for our Nacho Average Color Challenge #176!

NAC176

Be sure to join us by uploading your creation using the Linky Tool found on the Nacho site.

Birthday Fiesta 002

This card was actually not created by me.  I received it in the mail from one of my customers, Betty Stone.  Betty recently purchased the Birthday Fiesta Bundle (Birthday Fiesta stamp set and Fiesta Time Framelit dies), Festive Birthday Designer Series Paper and Festive Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

We have out of town company, and all my stamping stuff is put away (I know, right?), so I thought I'd share Betty's card.  Since I knew that Tammy, our fearless leader, had used the colors found in the Festive Birthday DSP as the inspiration for this challenge, I thought this card would be perfect to share.

This card just makes me smile!

That llama (or is it an alpaca??) is too stinkin' cute!

Thanks Betty for sending it to me!

In the Meadow Clear Block Watercolor-Nacho Average Color Challenge #176

We have a color challenge this week over at the Nacho Average Challenge Site.

We hope you'll play along!

NAC176

Here's my contribution:

In the Meadow 021

The inspiration for this card comes from the vivid sunsets that we are seeing due to the Hayden Pass Fire near the small community of Coaldale, CO.  Although this fire is a good 40 miles from us, the smoke blowing our way over the last few days has provided us with some beautiful sunsets.  Beautiful, but sad.  The fire has burned 15,000+ acres, but containment is increasing.  Good news for sure.   Mandatory evacuations have been in place for several days.  Unfortunately, the evacuees are being told they will not be able to return home for at least another 7-10 days.  I can't even imagine how they are coping.  This is the worst nightmare for all of us who live in and near the mountains.

I do know that residents of the surrounding areas have been very generous with their food, clothing and other goods.  There has also been a lot of time and support donated to the effort of evacuating pets and livestock.

Our hearts go out to our neighbors.

Stampin' Technique: clear block watercolor background

Stamp Sets: In the Meadow, Sunburst Sayings

Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Pumpkin Pie, Emerald Envy, Early Espresso

Paper: Pumpkin Pie, Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White

Accessories: Clear-block "D", Stampin' Spritzer filled with water, Wink of Stella

Wonderland Watercolor Blotter-Nacho Average Challenge #173

We have a great sketch challenge this week over at the Nacho Average site.  We hope you'll play along!

NAC173

Here's my contribution:

Wonderland 046

Recently, I received a very special gift in the mail from Dan Stouffer.  Dan Stouffer is an accomplished watercolor artist that lives in New Mexico.  He and his wife Jean are long time family friends.  Both my Mom and I have an extensive collection of Dan Stouffer paintings in our houses.

The special gift that came in the mail was several "blotter" pieces that Dan uses to test colors as he paints.

Basically, they are scraps.

Oh, but what beautiful scraps!

Wonderland 043

In fact, on the back of one of the blotters was a piece of a painting. Obviously the start of a painting that didn't make the grade and was basically cut up to use as blotter scraps.

But, what a pretty piece! I have this one sitting on my book shelf.

A mini painting that is perfect for my mountain setting!

Wonderland 045

Anyway, I decided to use one of the blotter pieces with shades of blue and a touch of Wisteria Wonder, coupled with Wonderland, for this week's challenge.

Thanks Dan for sharing!  I will enjoy using the blotters in my crafting!

White Christmas Window Card-Nacho Average Challenge #169

I really like this week's Nacho Average sketch challenge.  We hope you will too and will be inspired to play along with the challenge!

NAC169

Here's my contribution:

White Christmas 018

I especially like this sketch because it gave me an opportunity to play with the Hearth and Home Thinlits Dies featured in the Holiday Catalog.  It also gave me an opportunity to play with White Christmas, one of my all-time favorite stamp sets.  It is one of my favorites because of the car image which reminds me of my red and black Mini Countryman.  My inspiration for this card was our small house in a big forest and the view out our living room window, complete with dark wood paneling!

To create this card, I started with a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock.  This is the piece that would fit behind the window.  I sponged on Marina Mist to create the back ground.  After I cut my window out of Sahara Sand card stock, I placed it over my background piece.  Using a pencil, I made light marks at the corner of the window panes.  This would give me an idea on where the placement of the stamped images would go.  Once the images were stamped, I colored in the car, Christmas tree and bare tree using Blender Pens and ink pads.  To create the paneling, I sponged Early Espresso ink on the inside of the Stripes Embossing Folder, inserted the paper and ran it through the big Shot.

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entries to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Sheltering Tree-Nacho Average Color Challenge #168

We hope you'll check out this week's color challenge over at the Nacho Average site:

Here's my contribution:

Sheltering Tree 073

I used Sheltering Tree stamp set for this card.  I CASE'd (copy and share with everyone) the Sheltering Tree sample card on page 89 of the main SU! catalog.  I just changed this up a little to match the colors in the Nacho challenge.  The SU! catalogs are a great resource for ideas and inspiration.  And CASE'ing is encouraged!

Sleigh Ride Circles-Nacho Average Sketch Challenge #167

We have an interesting sketch challenge this week over at the Nacho Average challenge site:

NAC167

Here's my contribution:

Sleigh Ride Thinlits 007I wasn't too sure about this sketch, but once I thought it through, it actually came together pretty easy.

I used the Sleigh Ride Edgelits to create a fun winter scene out of Bermuda Bay, Basic Gray and Shimmer White card stock.  The top circle is vellum card stock with the snowflake images from Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamped using white Stazon ink.

I cut the pieces for the sleigh ride scene using the Big Shot and Sleigh Ride Edgelits.  I then built the scene by layering the pieces under my  3 1/2" circle framelit.  Once I got the design how I wanted it, I secured the pieces together using a SNAIL adhesive.  Then, I placed my circle framelit over the scene and ran it through the Big Shot.  The individual pieces were longer than the framelit, but once it was run through the Big Shot, the extra card stock was cut away.

I then mounted them on a Basic Gray card base which I trimmed down somewhat to accommodate the smaller scene.  The card actually measures 3 3/4" x 3".  Since I didn't have room for any of the longer greetings that come in the coordinating stamp set Jingle All the way, I used the smaller greeting found in Festival of Trees.  I then added the rest of the greeting, plus more snowflakes to the inside of the card.

Sleigh Ride Thinlits 009

Lovely as A Tree Baby Wipe Technique-Nacho Average Color Challenge #166

We have a nice fall-themed color challenge this week over at the Nacho Average challenge site.

NAC166Here's my contribution:

Lovely as a Tree 072

This card was inspired by the changing colors of the oaks on our property.  It also features the baby wipe technique, one of my all-time favorites.  It's so easy to do.  Simply lay a folded baby wipe (scented, unscented, doesn't matter) in a powder pal or similar.  Then, add drops of reinkers onto the wipe, creating your ink palette.  Ink up your stamp and stamp.  That's it!  You can add more drops of reinker to the baby wipe if needed, but be careful that your colors don't become muddy.

Click here for a quick pictorial baby wipe technique tutorial.

Winter Wonderland Iris Fold Ornament-Nacho Average Challenge 165

Time for a fun sketch challenge over at the Nacho Average Site:

NAC165

Here's my contribution:

Wonderland 012

I decided to turn the sketch on its side and create an iris fold ornament using Winter Wonderland Specialty Designer Series Paper.

Iris Folding is one of my favorite crafting techniques.

Click here for more ideas, patterns and a video tutorial!

This  ornament is a simple circle with only 3 sections completed, allowing the "iris" in the center to be larger.  I started by punching a piece of Whisper White card stock using my 2 1/2" circle punch.  The black and white patterned designer series paper was adhered first at an angle creating a point at the top, bottom and 2 sides of the circle.  The gold and white scrolly paper was added next, then the black and white lined paper. All were lined up to meet at the same point creating a square in the middle for the gold pine cone paper.

No real pattern was used for this circle as it is a pretty simple iris fold.

But be sure to check here for basic iris folding patterns including a circle.

As always, remember to work at the back of the piece.

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entries to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.
