Emboss Resist Dragonfly Dreams

Emboss Resist Technique, Dragonfly Dreams

Create a pretty pastel background using the stamp set Dragonfly Dreams and the Emboss Resist Technique.

Super easy and it is one of those WOW techniques.

To start, I swiped my Whisper White card front using the Embossing Buddy, stamped the dragonfly image from Dragonfly Dreams in Versmark ink, and then heat embossed using white embossing powder.

Then, with a sponge, I added my Marina Mist, Wisteria Wonder and Cucumber Crush inks over the embossed images.

Sponging on colors for emboss resist technique

When I was done, I rubbed off the ink from the embossed images with a paper towel making the white image pop.  The ink will resist where the image has been embossed.

Emboss Resist close up

The piece was attached to an Elegant Eggplant mat and added to the Whisper White card base using Dimensionals.  The greeting from Wish Big was stamped using Elegant Eggplant ink.

The Emboss Resist is an easy way to add interest to any background.  Color combinations are endless.  Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Supplies Used:

Stamp Sets: Dragonfly Dreams, Wish Big (Paper Pumpkin)

Ink: Marina Mist, Wisteria Wonder, Cucumber Crush, Elegant Eggplant, Versamark

Paper: Whisper White, Elegant Eggplant

Accessories: Embossing Buddy,  heat tool, white embossing powder, Candy Dots, Dimensionals

Silver Dynamic Hexagons Embossing Folder-Masculine Birthday Card

Double Hexagon Embossing Folder 006

The new Dynamic Hexagons Embossing folder is perfect for making those sometimes hard to create masculine cards!

Recently, we were invited to the 13th birthday celebration for my husband's cousin's grandson!

Ok, I rarely have to make a card for a 13 year old boy, so I had to think a few minutes about what I could come up with.

It didn't take me long though because I knew the Dynamic Hexagons embossing folder would do the trick, especially if I used it to emboss a piece of silver foil paper.

This card is so cool in person.  I love the raised texture from the embossing and how the silver foil paper changes depending on the lighting.

It has that great industrial look, perfect for a a tech savvy kid!

Double Hexagon Embossing Folder 013

The greeting was heat embossed on a piece of vellum card stock using black embossing powder.  I used 2 black glimmer brads from my stash to hold the vellum in place, plus to add a little bit of interest.

Super Easy!

The Dynamic Hexagons Embossing Folder makes quick work out of making masculine-themed cards!

Supplies Used:

Stamp Set: Wish Big (Paper Pumpkin)

Ink: Versamark

Paper: Basic Black, Silver Foil, Vellum Cardstock

Accessories: Big Shot, Dynamic Hexagons Embossing Folder, Embossing Buddy, heat tool, black embossing powder, paper piercing tool and mat, glimmer brads

A Note of Thanks

Life has been a struggle the last few months, so I haven't been able to do much stamping.

My mother in law passed away on Oct 27 after a brief illness.  We've been busy with her care, then the funeral and out of town guests. She fought a brave battle and is now at peace.

And amidst all of that, we were evacuated from our home due to the Junkins Fire.  We are back home now, and the fire is 100% contained.  The mountainside behind our house is still smoldering as it won't be completely out until we get some good moisture.  We are doing our snow dance!

One bright spot was the birth of our first granddaughter, Madysen Amy, on Oct 11.

Life goes on!

We have so many people to thank for their kindness during my mother in law's illness.  Plus, we received so much help and many beautiful flowers for her funeral service.  Because of that, I needed to make some quick and easy thank you cards to send out pronto.

These are two of the designs I created.  I simply punched out squares from pretty designer paper using my retired postage stamp punch, matted them to some coordinating card stock and layered them to a clean and simple card base.

For the first card, I used Floral Boutique DSP, and for the second, I used Presents and Pine Cones DSP.  The greeting comes from the retired stamp set Thank You Kindly.

Casology Sunshine Challenge-Clear Block Kinda Eclectic Watercolor Background

Here is another card that I created using the CASology challenge theme "sunshine" as my inspiration.

Kinda Eclectic 018

I used one of my favorite stamping techniques for this card: acrylic block stamping.

Because I wanted the watercolor background to be contained to a rectangle shape, I first created a mask out of regular computer paper using my paper trimmer. I cut the mask the same size as my "E" clear block.

I laid the mask over my watercolor paper card front, securing it with a little temporary adhesive so it wouldn't shift while I added my color and did my stamping.  I dabbed my Island Indigo, Pool Party, Tangelo Twist , Calypso Coral and Crushed Curry stampin' spots (from various Paper Pumpkin kits) onto my "E" clear block. I then spritzed the block lightly with water so the inks began to pool and run.  I then placed the block through the mask onto the watercolor paper and let it set for a few seconds, allowing the ink to absorb into the watercolor paper.  I removed the block and let the paper dry.

Kinda Eclectic 022

Once it had dried completely, I removed the mask, swiped my Embossing Buddy over the watercolor background, stamped the sun image from Kinda Eclectic using Versamark ink, and then heat embossed it with Early Espresso embossing powder.  I then stamped and embossed my greeting from Ray of Sunshine.

Stamp Sets: Kinda Eclectic, Ray of Sunshine (retired)

Ink: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Tangelo Twist, Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry, Versamark

Paper: Crushed Curry, watercolor, copy

Accessories: "E" Clear Block, Embossing Buddy, heat tool, Early Espresso embossing powder (retired), Stampin' Spritzer with water, Dimensionals.

Casology Sunshine Challenge-Kinda Eclectic Tie Dye

This week's Casology challenge is Sunshine!

CAS sunshine

I thought I'd play along:

Kinda Eclectic 025

When I read what this week's challenge was, I immediately knew I wanted to do a tie dye background.

To create the tie dye effect, I combined two of my favorite stamping techniques: watercolor and clear-block backgrounds.

To start, I dabbed Island Indigo, Pool Party, Tangelo Twist, Calypso Coral and Crushed Curry Stampin' Spots (from various Paper Pumpkin kits) onto my "E" clear block.  I then spritzed the block lightly with water so the inks began to pool and run.  I then simply stamped the block onto a piece of watercolor paper and let it set for a few seconds, allowing the ink to absorb into the watercolor paper.  I removed the block and let the paper dry.

Once dry, I cut the paper down to match the sun from Kinda Eclectic.  I then stamped the sun using Versamark ink and then heat embossed it with Early Espresso embossing powder.

I  thought the paper was dry enough, but it actually wasn't.  You can tell by the little flecks of embossing powder scattered here and there, especially in the upper right hand corner.  That's ok as I think it adds a little bit of interest.

To complete the card, I added the tie dye background to a Whisper White card base and stamped and embossed my greeting from Ray of Sunshine.

Stamp Sets: Kinda Eclectic, Ray of Sunshine (retired)

Ink: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Tangelo Twist, Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry, Versamark

Paper: Whisper White, watercolor

Accessories: "E" Clear Block, heat tool, Early Espresso embossing powder (retired), Stampin' Spritzer with water, Dimensionals.

Gorgeous Grunge Happy Birthday-Can You Case It Color Challenge #119

Needed to make a quick thank you card, and I found my inspiration with this week's Can You Case It color challenge:

Can You Case It 119

Here's my contribution:

Gorgeous Grunge 021

This was a quick and simple card to put together.  I cut a piece of gold foil paper using my Big Shot and Bloomin' Hearts Thinlits die.  I then punched out a piece of the heart using my 1 3/4" circle punch.  I layered it on a Night of Navy circle and added a Night of Navy button with a gold cording bow.  I used Gorgeous Grunge for the lines down the right edge and the greeting is from Party with Cake.  Both were stamped using Night of Navy ink.

Glitter Butterfly-CASology Glitter Challenge

"Glitter" is this week's cue word over at the CASology challenge site.

Here's my contribution:

Butterfly Basics 033For this card, I started by cutting the butterfly image out of my Whisper White card front using the smaller Butterfly Thinlit and Big Shot and then stamping my greeting from Butterfly Basics.  I also cut out a butterfly from Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper.  I mounted a piece of Basic Black card stock onto my Whisper White card base and then mounted my stamped card front, popping it up using Dimensionals.  I then inserted the glimmer butterfly into the negative space on the card front.  I colored some rhinestones using a black Sharpie pen and added them to the card front to complete.

NAC158

Watercolor Wings 018For this card, I used the 3-step stamp set, Watercolor Wings to create the butterfly.  The first image was stamped using Smoky Slate, the second image stamped in Island Indigo and then the third image was stamped using Smoky Slate again.  The body was stamped using Early Espresso.  I then cut it out using my Big Shot and the coordinating Bold Butterfly Framelit.  The dots and greeting are also found in the stamp set.  I really like this color combo!

Clear Block Stamping- Serene Silhouettes

Shimmer Block 003

To create a multi-colored background, tap different color inks onto a clear block.  Spritz the ink with water and stamp onto a piece of Whisper White card stock or water color paper.  Let it set for a moment or two, then lift.  Let the inks blend into each other and then set aside to dry before stamping your image.  This is a great technique for creating landscapes.

Stamp Sets: Serene Silhouettes, Teeny Tiny Wishes

Ink: Tuxedo Black, Island Indigo, Marina Mist, Calypso Coral and Hello Honey

Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White

Accessories: Clear block D, spritzer bottle with water

Here's the list of Challenges 1-99 in a pdf format

Blended Bloom 005

For my card, I chose sketch challenge #97. I like that it is quick and simple and to the point!

Nac97

I stamped the new Blended Bloom stamp on a piece of Whisper White card stock using the Tuxedo Black Memento pad.  I then filled in parts of the flower using a black Stampin' Write marker.  The greeting is from A Dozen Thoughts stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink.  A Cherry Cobbler Candy Dot was added to the center of the flower for an additional pop of red.  Don't think you can ever go wrong with the color combination of black, white and red.

Clean and Simple Petite Petals-Nacho Average Challenge #96

Coastal Cabana, Pacific Point and Rose Red are our challenge colors this week over at the Nacho Average Challenge site.

Here is my contribution:

Petite Petals 004

I wanted to create a clean and simple card using the Petite Petals punch and the small flower punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  I love how these two little punched flowers coordinate with each other.

The greeting is from Vivid Vases.  I recently discovered a little trick for easily inking up only part of the image.  You may already know this trick, but for me, it was one of those A Ha! moments.  The Vivid Vases stamp has the line of flower vases at the top with the greeting underneath.  All I wanted was to stamp the greeting.  In the past, I would have inked up the greeting using a marker, but I have found that images inked up this way really don't stamp well.  So instead, I put a piece of packing tape over the vases and then inked up the bottom part of the stamp.  That way, I could really ink up the part I wanted without worrying about getting in on the part of the image I didn't want.  I simply removed the packing tape and stamped.  Scotch Tape will work to cover up smaller images.  TIP: Be sure to remove the packing/scotch tape or you'll have big smudges on your final stamping.  Ok, that may be the look you're going for, but then again, probably not :)

Be sure to check out each of the Design Team's entries to the challenge and leave a comment if you can.  It means a lot to all of us!  We'd also love for you to play along with the weekly challenges.  A Linky Tool has been added so you can upload your creation to the Nacho Design Team site.

Watercolor Poppies

Here's a little different take on my Masked Pleasant Poppies card posted HERE.

Watercolor Poppies 027

This card was my swap card for a recent Stamp Club.  Our Hostess wanted the theme to be "flowers with a touch of bling!"

I used the same technique for my Masked Pleasant Poppies card, but with a change of colors.  I also used watercolor paper instead of regular card stock.

I started by making a square mask out of a piece of computer paper using the Big Shot and a square framelit. I placed the mask on my watercolor paper card front, securing it with a little bit of temporary adhesive.  I then stamped the Pleasant Poppies and the speckles from Gorgeous Grunge using Versamark and heat embossed using Early Espresso embossing powder.  Once embossed, I simply added the colors Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Crisp Cantaloupe, Marina Mist, Soft Sky and Gumball Green using an Aqua Painter.  After a little blending, I removed the mask and stamped the greeting.  I also added a butterfly punched out of Champagne Glimmer paper for the touch of bling in the swap theme!

Supplies Used:

Stamp Sets: Pleasant Poppies, Teeny Tiny wishes, Gorgeous Grunge

Ink: Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Crisp Cantaloupe, Marina Mist, Soft Sky, Gumball Green, Versamark

Paper: Marina Mist, Champagne Glimmer and watercolor paper

Accessories: Aqua Painter, heat tool, Early Espresso embossing powder, Big Shot, Squares Framelits, Bitty Butterly punch, Mini Glue Dot
