Matchbook Chocolate Holders for Valentine's Day!

Matchbook Valentines Day Treat

Just in time for Valentine's Day!

Here's a quick and easy gift-giving idea.

Perfect for holding chocolate favors.

I made these to hold Ghiradelli Chocolate Squares, but you could easily change the size to accommodate smaller or larger candies.

Matchbook Chocolate Holder inside
Here's how:

Start with a piece of card stock measuring 9 1/4" x 3".  Score it at 3/4", 5", and 5 1/4".  Fold along the score lines.  The 3/4" score is the bottom of the matchbook.  Fold it up and staple towards the bottom middle, allowing for the front to slip inside to close.

For these, I used Berry Burst card stock for the bases.  The fronts are covered with a piece of Wood Textures Designer Series Paper cut at 4" x 2 3/4.   The folded up bottom piece measures 4" x 1/2" with the greeting from Teeny Tiny Wishes stamped in Berry Burst ink.

For the hearts, I stamped piece of Whisper White card stock using the Marbled background stamp in Berry Burst ink.  I then heat embossed the piece using a heat tool and clear embossing powder.  I punched out the hearts using my retired heart punch.  Any punch or framelit would work.  The hearts were added to the front of the matchbooks using Mini Dimensionals to pop them up.  Glimmer dots were added to complete.

Marbled Heart closeup

I applied SNAIL Adhesive to the back of each chocolate square, securing them to the inside of the matchbook.

I made these as thank you gifts for attendees at a recent class.

Supplies Used:

Stamp Sets: Teeny Tiny Wishes, Marbled

Ink: Berry Burst

Paper: Berry Burst, Wood Textures Designer Series Paper

Accessories: scoring tool, heat tool, clear embossing powder, heart punch, Ghiradelli Chocolate Squares, mini stapler, Mini Glue Dots, glimmer dots

Faux Patina Fluttering

Faux Patina fluttering

While I had the Fluttering Embossing Folder on my craft table after creating this Brusho Crystal Fluttering Embossed Card, I decided to create another quick card using the Faux Patina Technique.

The card above was actually inspired by the patina butterfly sculpture that is hanging on a tree in our back yard:

Faux Patina inspiration

The Faux Patina Technique is easy and has numerous color combination possibilities.

You will need: 4 colors ink: neutral, 2 colors (blue and green are traditional patina colors), dark

Versamark

Metallic embossing powder, Embossing Buddy, heat tool

Here's how:

Faux Patina step 1

  1. Swipe neutral color (Crumb Cake ink pad) on the inside of the Fluttering embossing folder (the inside of the side with the “Sizzix” label.)

Faux Patina step 2

  1. Insert a piece of Whisper White card stock inside the folder and run through the Big Shot.

Faux Patina step 3

  1. Sponge 2nd color (Marina Mist) over the embossed images.

Faux Patina step 4

  1. Sponge 3rd color (Always Artichoke) over embossed images.

Faux Patina step 5

  1. Sponge darkest color (Early Espresso) over embossed images.

Faux Patina step 6

  1. Set aside to let ink dry a little bit, or lightly tap Embossing Buddy over the image to help dry out the ink.

(To keep from staining the Embossing Buddy, please tap, don’t swipe it across the image.)

  1. Lightly tap Versamark over parts of the image. You don’t want to emboss the whole image, only parts of it for a random look.

Faux Patina step 7

  1. Add metallic (gold) embossing powder to image. Remove large areas of the embossing powder with your finger tips or brush. You don’t want the whole image embossed, just random areas.

Faux Patina step 9

  1. Heat emboss using heat tool.
  2. Attach to Crumb Cake card base.
  3. Apply Expressions Natural Element to front of card using Glue Dots.

The card above uses a retired Expressions Natural Elements.  I made this card adding the word "enjoy" cut out of gold glimmer paper using the Big Shot and the Mini Treats Thinlits Dies.

Faux Patina Fluttering

Other color combinations to try:

-Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Early Espresso

-Crumb Cake, Rose Red, Rich Razzleberry, Elegant Eggplant

-Crumb Cake, Bermuda Bay, Basic Grey

-Crumb Cake, Bermuda Bay, Night of Navy, Basic Grey

-Crumb Cake, Pink Pirouette, Elegant Eggplant, Basic Grey

I hope you'll give the Faux Patina Technique a try.

Supplies Used:

Ink: Crumb Cake, Marina Mist, Always Artichoke, Early Espresso, Versamark

Paper: Crumb Cake, Whisper White

Accessories: Embossing Buddy, heat tool, gold embossing powder, Big Shot, Fluttering Embossing Folder, Expressions Natural Elements (retired), Mini Glue Dots, sponge

Fluttering Embossing Folder and Brusho Crystal Colours

Fluttering Embossing Folder

Here's another fun way to use the Brusho Crystal Colours found in the new Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog.

Combine the Brusho Crystals and water with an embossed image for added texture and interest.

For this card, I used Fluttering Embossing Folder.

Here's how:

  1. Cut a piece of watercolor paper 5" x 3 3/4".  Run it through the Big Shot using the Fluttering Embossing Folder.  Run it forward, backward, and forward again to get a good embossed image.
  2. Spritz embossed watercolor paper with water.  Sprinkle Brusho Crystals onto the water.  For my card, I started with Brilliant Red.
  3. Repeat with more Brusho Crystals.  For my card, I added Gamboge, Yellow, and Prussian Blue.
  4. Remove excess water by dabbing piece with a tissue.  Set it aside to dry completely.
  5. After the piece is completely dry, swipe on white ink to the embossed images using a White Craft ink pad.  Set aside to dry completely.  Add more white craft ink if desired.  Set aside to dry completely.
  6. Attach piece to Island Indigo matting.  Attach to So Saffron card  base.
  7. Cut 2 "enjoy" pieces from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits dies out of Island Indigo card stock using the Big Shot.  Glue the two pieces together, adding dimension to the word.  Add to the card front using Mini Dimensionals to pop it up.
  8. Stamp greeting from Dragonfly Dreams stamp set onto a scrap piece of So Saffron card stock using Island Indigo ink.  Banner cut one end.  Attach to the card front using Mini Dimensionals to complete.

Brusho Party Pandas

Stampin' Up! is pleased to announce the addition of Brusho Crystal Colours in the new 2018 Occasions Catalog!

Watercolor ink crystals—Sprinkle them directly on water-washed paper and watch the colors burst.

Brusho crystals

Package includes 5 pots, 1 each of 5 colors: Brilliant Red, Gamboge (orange), Moss Green, Prussian Blue, Yellow

#144101, $30.00

I've been having lots of fun playing with the Brushos.

I love how abstract backgrounds can be created easily by simply by adding water to watercolor paper, then lightly sprinkling on some of the Brusho Crystals.

The crystals will run and pool creating unique backgrounds.

And each one will be different.

For the card above, I paired the Brusho Crystals with my favorite Sale-A-Bration stamp, Party Pandas.

Here's how:

  1. Cut a piece of watercolor paper measuring 5" x 3 3/4".  Using an aqua painter, swish water onto the watercolor paper.
  2. Shake first color of Brusho Crystals onto the water.  Add other colors as desired.  For my card, I started with the Brilliant Red, than added Gamboge and Yellow.  The wetter the paper, the more the crystals will spread and pool.  Dab off excess water with a tissue if needed, then set aside to dry completely.
  3. Swipe Embossing Buddy over card front.  Stamp panda using Archival Black ink.  Heat emboss using a heat tool and black embossing powder.
  4. Stamp balloon part of the panda on a scrap piece of Crushed Curry card stock using Archival Black ink.  Cut the balloon out using a pair of scissors.  Stamp the confetti image using Archival Black ink.  Paper-piece balloon using  a Mini Dimensional to pop it up.
  5. Stamp greeting using Archival Black ink.  Heat emboss using a heat tool and black embossing powder.
  6. Stamp confetti on the card front using Archival Black ink.
  7. Attach card front to Crushed Curry mat.  Attach to Basic Black card base.
