Spring has arrived here in the mountains of southern Colorado. After a dry winter, we've had a snowy and rainy spring. Temps are rising, and the Hardscrabble Creek is running high. That means the dragonflies will soon be patrolling up and down the creek bed in search of food.
In celebration of their return, I created this card using the Clear Block Watercolor Background Technique and the stamp set Dragonfly Dreams.
The Clear Block Watercolor Background Technique is my go-to whenever I want to create a landscape, whether it be on land or water.
The technique is easy. Here's how.
Lightly tap ink pads onto a clear block, and spritz with water. Lay the block onto a piece of regular card stock or watercolor paper. Let it sit for a few seconds, then lift. Let it dry completely, then stamp your image.
For this card, I tapped Pool Party and Marina Mist inks onto my clear block "E", then added Pear Pizzazz ink along the edges. After spritzing the block with water, I stamped on a piece of Whisper White card stock.
Once the background was dry, I stamped the dragonfly using the 2-step method. First came the solid wings stamped in Emerald Envy, then came the body over stamped using Dapper Denim.
I stamped the dots image using Marina Mist and Pool Party. For the most part, I inked up the stamp, stamped off, then stamped onto my background so they dots wouldn't be full strength. But, some of the Pool Party dots were stamped full strength.
I added some clear Wink of Stella to the dragonfly as well as to the background for a little shimmer.
The greeting was stamped in Dapper Denim.
