Aluminum Snowflakes for the Christmas Tree!

One of my all-time favorite things to do with my Big Shot is to cut recycled aluminum cans!  My friends know this and have been saving different kinds of soda and beer cans for me. I have quite a collection!  Recently, we moved from New Mexico to Colorado.  One of the things I made sure that made the move was a large plastic bag filled with all these saved recycled aluminum cans.  My husband shook his head when he saw me packing this precious bag into a moving box!  For Christmas, I thought it would be cool to decorate a small fir tree by our front porch using snowflakes cut out of these aluminum cans.  I used a variety of cans and ended up making about 25 snowflakes.  I couldn't seem to stop myself!

Be sure to visit my posting dated December 10, 2009 for more details and a video tutorial on how to cut aluminum cans using the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine.

Here are some of the snowflakes (Cans used in this photo: Tecate beer, Big K Grape, Coke Zero, Sprite, Negro Modelo beer, Coca Cola, and La Croiz Cran-Raspberry.  My favorite cans to use are Coca Cola, Coke Zero, Sprite and Ginger Ale.  The La Croix and Big K brands have a lot of really interesting colors, but a fair amount of writing to work around when cutting the can.  The beer cans have good color but too much writing on the can to work around.)

Fabric Coasters and Christmas Ornaments

I created these coaster ornaments using  Designer Fabrics found in the SU! Holiday Mini Catalog for my downline as Christmas gifts.  When you purchase the Designer Fabrics from Stampin' Up!, the bundles come with pamphlet of instructions for 5 great fabric projects.  I used one of the ideas in the pamphlet for these coasters.  I am not the most proficient seamstress, so I am glad I had these instructions!

Fabric Coasters 022

There was a little bit of sewing involved, but for the most part, this was an easy project.  If you don't have a sewing machine, the layers of fabric and batting could be hand stitched or glued with fabric glue or a hot gun. Originally, these were going to be coasters, but then I thought they would make great Christmas ornaments.  So, I got out my Crop-a-dile and punched a hole through the layers of fabric and batting and added a ribbon hanger.

These are two I made using Candy Cane Christmas and other fabric I had in my stash (the green tree).
