Sense of Time Pop Up card

This card was our project for the July Stamp Clubs.  It is one of those WOW! projects.  This project uses the stamp set Sense of Time and the new Designer Series paper Nouveau Chic.

Here are the pieces you need:

         

1-8"x8" piece of card stock, scored in half horizontally and vertically

1-3/4" x 3/4" piece of DSP for inside, upper right hand quadrant

2-4"x4" pieces of card stock embossed using an embossing folder and ran through the Big Shot, upper and lower left hand quadrants

1-6" x 1/2" piece of card stock, scored at 2 1/2" and 3 1/2".  This is the larger mechanism "pop up" piece.

1-2" x 1/2" piece of card stock, scored at 1/2" on each end.  This is the smaller mechanism "pop up" piece.

2-4"x4" and 2 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" pieces of card stock and DSP for the front and back covers.

Pop Up Card Instructions:

  

 

See the diagram below for steps 1-4.

  

 

1. Begin with an 8” x 8” piece of card stock. Score your square in half once horizontally and once vertically using your paper scorer.  You may use a bone folder to get a crisp crease.

  

 

 

2. Cut the crease on the bottom of your card stock up to the center of the square.

  

 

 

3.  Attach the 3 ¾” x 3 ¾” piece of Nouveau Chic DSP to the upper right hand quadrant.  Then, put a diagonal crease from the center of the card to the outside point of this square using your paper scorer.

  

 

 

4. Pull the bottom right fourth of your square over on top of the bottom left fourth and adhere to create a diagonal cross section of a box.  Snail or Mono Adhesive will work for this. This is where you’ll create your scene.

  

  

5. Score your 6 ½” x 1 ½ ” piece of Basic Gray card stock at 2 ½” and 3 ½”.  Fold up creased ends so it is shaped like a “U“. One end of the “ U” will be longer than the other.  This will be the larger mechanism piece to allow your image to pop up when the card is opened.

  

 

 

6. Run two pieces of Apricot Appeal card stock through the Big Shot using either Final Press or Elegant Bouquet Textured Impressions Embossing folders. 

  

 

 

7.  Attach one side of scored Basic Gray piece on the inside of upper left hand quadrant of pop up card base.  Attach one piece of textured Apricot Appeal over this piece to hide.

  

 

 

8.  Attach 2^nd piece of textured Apricot Appeal  to the bottom left hand quadrant of the pop up card base.  Attach bottom  of scored Basic Gray piece to this textured piece. ***You will need to use Sticky Strip on the BOTTOM of this piece.  It needs the strength of the Sticky Strip to keep this piece adhered, especially after the card is closed and opened several times.

  

 

 

9.  Stamp  the clock on Sage Shadow card stock in Basic Black ink and cut out using the Coluzzle cutting system or scissors.  It is important to cut  the clock out as close to the upper border of the image.  You want the clock to be on the small side so when the card is closed and the clock in folded up inside, it doesn’t stick out the top of the card.  Attach clock by lining it up to BOTTOM of scored Basic Gray piece.  Again, you need the clock to be positioned far enough into the card so the top of it doesn't show at the top of the card when it is closed.

  

 

 

10. Run 2” x ½” piece of Apricot Appeal through Big Shot using either Finial Press or Elegant Bouquet Textured  Impressions Embossing Folders.  Score at ½” on each end.  Fold scored ends up so it is in the shape of a long "U".  Attach one end to the upper left hand quadrant of the pop up card base and the other side to the top of the clock. ***Again, I would use Sticky Strip on both the folded up edges.

  

 

 

11.  Stamp greeting on Sage Shadow card stock in Basic Black ink, mat and attach to bottom left hand quadrant of pop up base using Dimensionals.

  

 

 

12.  Stamp out clock workings on scrap pieces Sage Shadow card stock in Basic Black ink and cut out using scissors.  Attach to upper right hand  quadrant of pop up card base using Dimensionals or Pop Up Glue Dots.

  

 

 

13. Attach Sage Shadow grosgrain ribbon to front and back of pop up card so that it ties to the side that opens.

  

 

 

14.  Attach 4” x 4” pieces of Apricot Appeal and 3 ¾” x 3 ¾” DSP to front and back of the pop up card, covering the ribbon.

  

 

 

15. Stamp clock workings on Sage Shadow card stock using Basic Black ink.  Mount to Apricot Appeal and Going Gray matting and attach to front. 

  

 

 

**I would suggest using Sticky Strip to attach your scored “pop up” pieces.

Happy Retirement-Sunday paper inspiration challenge

Today was the first official day of retirement for my husband and I!  We will now move onto the next phase of our lives.

This is the card I gave to him to celebrate.  I finally used my new stamp set, Autumn Days for the background, combined with some of our new In Colors.  The birds are from Love you Much. I also used the small circle from Circle Circus.

 

Here was my inspiration.  This came from the Cost Plus insert in Sunday's paper. I immediately saw Dusty Durango, Crushed Curry, Chocolate Chip and Not Quite Navy.

  

Here is another version using the pheasant from Autumn Days.  I really like the pheasant!  But, I couldn't figure out a way to have two pheasants facing each other.  I even tried the Reflection Technique, and it just didn't work.  One bird was a lot lighter than the other, hence the name Reflection Technique! 

Medallion Sunday paper inspiration challenge

I've gotten in the habit of scanning the advertisement inserts in our local paper on Sundays for project inspiration.  And this Sunday was no exception!  I saw this bedding in a Target ad:

 

I love the colors and the design and immediately thought of the new Medallion background stamp from Stampin' Up!

It is one of my new favorites!

And here is my card. 

 

Very simple to do.  Colors used were Tempting Turquoise and Ballet Blue. I wanted to do the rock n roll technique to get the two colors, but since the stamp is so large, it wasn't working very well.  Instead, I ran the Ballet Blue pad over the center part of the stamp and then used a brayer to even the color out.  Then, I inked up the brayer using Tempting Turquoise and added the 2nd color to fill in areas.  The center is a Circle Ice Rhinestone brad and the corners were punched using the Ticket corner punch.

Here are a few more of my Circle Circus cards.  These are all 5x5 in size.

I love all the new In Colors!  I used Soft Suede and Melon Mambo for this one.

 

This one was created using Crushed Curry, Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo. Each circle is popped up with a Dimensional.

 

 

The lady bug is from Garden Whimsy and is inside a Build a Brad.

 

On this one, I used my new In Color Melon Mambo marker to color in a few of the flower centers.

 

Circle Circus, Emboss Resist

This insert from Wal Mart was in our Sunday paper.  I was instantly attracted to the bright colors!  Whoever thought of purchasing a lime green or orange vacuum cleaner?

It reminded me of my younger days when tie dye was all the rage.  So, I got out my Circle Circus stamp set, sponge daubers, white embossing powder and heat tool and went to work at creating my own tie dye project using the Emboss Resist technique.

Emboss Resist technique:

You will need:

Versamark, white embossing powder and a heat tool

1. Stamp your image in Versamark onto white matte card stock.

2. Sprinkle white embossing powder over the image and heat emboss with heat tool.

3. Using a sponge dauber, add color from regular dye ink pads.  The ink will resist where the image has been embossed.  Buff color using a kleenex.

Colors used: Crushed Curry, Glorious Green, Tempting Turquoise, Only Orange, Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry

In Color Circle Circus

It seems like a long time since I've sat down and just stamped.  I needed to make a few July birthday cards, and thought what a great opportunity to open up my new In Color ink pads, packets of paper, polka dot ribbon and markers!  And I used one of my new favorite stamp sets, Circle Circus.

Colors used are Dusty Durango, Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay and Soft Suede.

Best Wishes and More Waterfall Card

For the June Stamp Clubs, we created a four seasons Waterfall Card using Best Wishes and More.  I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the Waterfall Card is to make. 

Here is the front of the card with all the panels closed.  Pull the ribbon at the bottom to make the panels move up and fold one behind the other.

 

 

The "Ta Da" was my husband's idea!

Inspired by Nature by Sherrie Thomas

I received this beautiful card in today's mail from my Up, Upline, Sherrie Thomas.  I love the color combination of Chocolate Chip and Old Olive with a touch of Lovely Lilac.  And the stamp set Inspired by Nature is one of my favorites.  Thanks Sherrie!  You made my day.

 

Sherrie used the Grid Technique.  She used her Score Pal to score every 1/2", then stamped over it.  The back ground stamp is Sanded. I love this look.

Chocolate Paper Quilling Class was so much fun!

Thanks to our locally and internationally known paper quilling guru Monica Bergeron for her class on quilling paper chocolates!  We had a great evening of quilling, friendship and laughter!

To make the gift boxes, we used the Big Shot and Matchbook Box die from Stampin' Up! and retired Sweet Always paper.  The brown, orange and pinks in the paper went perfectly with a box full of chocolates! 

Here's Shelley's chocolates. She said her box was a mixture of Maple Creme, Creme de Mint, Raspberry Creme, Coconut, Milk and Dark chocolate and Carmel!  Too cute.

 

 

Here's Mary's. She quilled a pink heart to go on her Maple Cream chocolate!

 

Here's Nichole's.  Her assortment is fruit flavored: Lemon, Orange, Strawberry and Key Lime!

Here is the back of the box.  I created a "nutritional" label and printed it on an address label which was attached to the back of the box with the ribbon tied around to the front.

 

These boxes of quilled chocolates will make the most unique gifts!
