Too bad... I really like both of these sets.   Here's a card I created using stamps, In Color ink, paper and ribbon that will be retiring from the Stampin' Up! Spring-Summer Collection 2008 on August 10.

Fun and Fast Notes Happy Birthday Wishes

This is one of the cards we created at my eScapes Event on the 25th. I do not use Fun and Fast Notes often enough.  It is such a happy stamp set!  I love the color combo of the yellow, red and orange found in the Summer Picnic Designer Paper.

Tip: When cutting and mounting Fun and Fast Notes, cut the greeting from the image and mount on the end of the wood block for more stamping versatility.

We've got Carousel Notes Purses!

Special Delivery Girl

My very good friend Teresa D'Anza is so talented.  She made these adorable wooden blocks for her niece Madelyn-Ann Johnson who was born 6/21.  Welcome to the world little Maddie!

Teresa made a flip album using the Stimply Scrappin' Kit Special Delivery Girl for Maddie's mother to use for all those cute baby pictures to come.  These blocks were decorated using the left over paper and stickers from the kit. Teresa purchased wooden blocks and letters from Hobby Lobby.  She used Stampin' Up! craft ink to color the letters.  I love the color combination and the fun stickers. Too stinkin' cute Teresa! (and you know Teresa, that is the highest compliment :)

Strawberry lemonade, anyone?

Tart and Tangy is one of my favorite stamp sets.  It is available in the Occasions Mini Collection 2008 through June 30. 

The glass was made out of vellum card stock.  I drew out a template on computer paper, traced the pattern onto the vellum card stock and cut out.  I made the template a little larger so I could score the sides of the  vellum  at 1/4" and fold under to give a more finished look. I sponged on a little Rose Red ink to make it look like Strawberry lemonade in the glass.   I then used Mini Glue Dots, one at the top, one in the middle and one at the bottom, on each side to secure the glass to the card.  I put a strip of Sticky Strip at the rim and then added glass beads to make the glass look frosted. 

I inked up the lemon slices using Regal Rose and Rose Red markers.  I cut a slit up the center of this one to attach to the rim of the glass.  I also added Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds for added sparkle.

Wouldn't this card be cute as a glass of ice tea with a slice of lemon on the rim?

This was my inspiration piece!  I was going through some of my older samples and found this card I created last year.  Doesn't it make you wish you were on a beach with your feet in the water enjoying the cool ocean breeze?

Tart and Tangy Popsicle Cards!

It seems like a long time since I've sat down and just stamped!  I saw these cute popsicle cards and decided there was no better way to get back into stamping than to create these cool looking treats.  Can't you just imagine how yummy these would be on one of our hot, sunny summer days?

What you  need: Fun, summery stamps.  I used Stampin' Up!'s Tart and Tangy. You also need a popsicle or craft stick, 1 1 3/8" and 1 1/4" circle punches, scallop, rectangle and corner rounder punches and ribbon.  I also used a white gel pen to add white accents to the scalloped pieces and to outline the "bite" marks on the popsicles.  Although you can not see it, I also added a little Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds to the lime to make it sparkle.

The dimensions of the card are 5" x 4", scored at 2 1/2"  Use the corner rounder on the 3 corners and the scallop punch on the upper right corner.

Here's the inside of the orange popsicle.  I used the Happy Everything stamp set for the greeting.  The dimensions for the inside piece is 2 1/4" x 3 3/4".

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I added some Crystal Effects to help highlight the "dipped in chocolate" look on the strawberry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I used the rectangle punch to create the slots for the craft stick on the back.  The white greeting piece will cover the stick on the inside.

Random Act of Kindess from Sherrie Thomas

 I received this RAK from Sherrie Thomas, my Up, Up Line!  I love the way this card sparkles in person.  And I love the Summer Picnic Designer Paper found in the Occasions Mini Collection.  I wonder if it will make it into the new catalog?  Thanks Sherrie!

Faux Cloisonne

One of the techniques we learned at the May Stamp Clubs was Faux Cloisonne.  I love this technique because it is simple, yet you are able to create very elegant projects while using images from all those catalogs and magazines received in the daily mail!

According to the definition by Merriam Webster, cloisonne is the past participle of the French word cloisonner, to partition.  It is relating to or being a style of enamel decoration in which the enamel is applied and fired in raised cells (as of soldered wires) on a usually metal background.  When my mother and I traveled to China in 2006, we visited a cloisonne factory where they were creating everything from simple animal figurines to eleborate vases and plates.  I was fascinated with the art form and am glad there is a simple way to create the technique for cards and other paper crafts.

I have a box filled with pages out of catalogs that I have saved.  One of my favorites to use for this technique is Cold Water Creek catalogs because of the color combinations used in their clothing and other products.  Seed and plant catalogs are also filled with colorful images.  Home and bedding catalogs like Bedford Fair are good too because they offer bedspreads, rugs and tableclothes in great color combinations. Now when flipping through catalogs, I find myself not looking at the item as something to purchase, but at the color combinations and patterns to use in card making.  Believe me, once you try this simple technique, you will never look at a magazine or catalog in the same way again!

What you need: line image stamp, colorful image from a magazine or catalog, Embossing Buddy to keep down static (optional), Versamark, gold embossing powder and a heat tool.

Choose a colorful image from a magazine or catalog.  Rub Embossing Buddy over the page if needed to control static.  Stamp your line image in Versamark and emboss with gold embossing powder.  Be careful not to heat too much as the paper is thinner than card stock.  Cut out image and apply to project. 

 

 

Stamp sets used for this card were Embrace Life and Wonderful Words.  I used pages from The Collector's Guide Santa Fe, Taos, Albuquerque which my good friend Denise Carlson gave to me last year.  It is filled with images of paintings and other artwork that can be viewed at various galleries in Northern New Mexico.  It is a great resource for colorful images.

Soldiers' Angels cards Part 3
